Back pain anyone?

Last July I cracked my T12 vertebrae which was repaired by Vertabroplasty and that resolved the pain from the cracked T12. Since about two weeks after the Vertabroplasty I started to experience tightness and increasing pain levels. The last 3-4 weeks the pain has been quite severe and we are using morphine and Oxy for pain control. While the drugs work to reduce pain I’m trying to find the root cause of the pain and hopefully a way to treat the cause.

Has anyone else ever experienced this type of pain? Any solutions on what worked to help resolve the pain.

I've had so much lower back pain from herniated discs that I wouldn't know if I cracked all of my discs ...BEFORE CANCER. Way before Cancer. I know how bad the pain sucks, so I send big healing hugs and hope they can do something. I go to a chiropractor...but I wouldn't advise that...I don't think it's safe for everyone. Oh, something that doesn't involve the heavy drugs that helps me...is an ice pack on the area that hurts. Good Luck!

Hi Jack,

Please see the back surgeon and get an MRI. There could be a musculoskeletal reason for the pain. I have a toxic annular tear of my L5-S1 as well as facet degeneration. What seems to help me is: yoga, hot tubbing, and the TENS unit. Once you find out the reason your doctor may advise physical therapy and/or chiropractic care. I'm planning on getting minimally invasive microsurgery as all the above hasn't resolved my issue. Check out Dr. Tony Mork in Newport Beach, CA. He has some insightful u-tube videos. Good luck to feeling better.😺

Awesome Whimpy!!

I’m having new scan in early July. I truly hope we find the cause as this back pain sucks.

I had back pain that was very intense and did not respond to pain control meds. It was a tumor pressing on nerves in the spine itself. I had an ablation and then vertaboplasty to cement the weak spot. 3 years later and I’m still pain free - although I’m also still at undetectable PSA after chemo 3 years ago too.

That is awesome news!! I get new scans in a couple of weeks so I’ll know if it’s new activity.

Great on both accounts!✌️

Asked specialist about vertebroplasty and after X-rays he said he wouldn't touch my spine. Mult fractures T5-T12, Failing wedge fractures the latest development. Annual pain killing injections are what I have lived with for last 5 years. Total loss of height of only 2 1/2 " since first injuries 46 yrs ago, way pre APC time. Orthopedic surgeon can give injections, But they only mask problems. Good and bad with them.

Hi, I'm new here but I had Mets to my spine which were very severe never ever screamed in pain before but I did with that. Anyway tried morphine did not even touch the pain. Had pain management doctor come to see me. He asked me what I wanted out of life and I said I just wanted to be able to walk around pain free I knew I wouldn't be absolutely pain free but something had to be better than the state I was in. So he put me on pregrabalin and celocoxib. He also put me on 25 mg fentynyl patches which is an opioid 75 times stronger than morphine. He also put me on duloxitine and diazepam to be taken before bed as these relax the body and stop spasms happening around the spine. I can now walk around pain free but my back does stiffen up sometimes. Worse thing is I can't work any more, I have always worked all my life. I'm only 54. Take care.

Thanks Bullterrier!

You must have been diagnosed at a young age. I was 55 when diagnosed and worked till 58. The new regime I’m on is morphine as the base and oxy for break through pain. It’s reduced my pain but not there yet. This will give me something to talk to my pain doc on.

Hi, my location is Nottingham England. I used to make mattresses which was quite a physical job. Since Mets on spine which got attacked rather severely can't bend down too far or lift much. Now having trouble with right hip and both shoulder joints don't know whether that's due to ADT. Got consultation with oncologist in couple of weeks with bloods and other tests. Sepsis nearly did me instead of cancer but kept fighting. Keeping positive and looking forward to more years to come. Take care.

Please ask your Dr. to order a bone scan. Osteoporosis is one of the most under diagnosed conditions for men. Men with prostate cancer on ADT are even more susceptible. I learned this from experience. Doing MRI's won't tell you the reason for your spine fracturing. Mine fractured twice and the orthopedics totally missed the reason for this. You may have to go on osteoporosis meds. to strengthen the spine. My fractures both healed over time without any intervention involving surgeries. If you do have osteoporosis doing spinal injections will be extremely painful and may not be the correct diagnosis. I learned this from experience also. Good luck, ask the right questions, don't let the orthopedists miss looking at these things.

Great insight! I did a full spinal workout a couple of months back and they felt that other than healed lesions one my spine and two compressed discs I’m structurally intact.

I did have an abyss on my sous muscle last fall so I need to have that looked at as well. I look into the bone scan

In addition to the Dexa bone scan please ask for a C-Teloptide (CDX) test, which measures bone turnover.
