My Facebook post on the 4th anniversary of my diagnosis

Today is the fourth anniversary of me discovering that an uninvited guest was living in the basement. That “guest” is still mooching off me with no intention of moving out, despite my best efforts to eradicate it.

Since the first day when I discovered this nasty thief, I have been attacking it daily with chemicals. For a few months I tried to clobber it with high potency drugs, which wounded it, but also made me sick. There were two places where this nasty creep had reproduced, so I hit those spots with high dose radiation. Over these four years my live-in nemesis has become immune to the daily chemical treatment, causing me to switch to a different, more powerful chemical.

In addition to moving in without asking, this creepy roommate doesn’t pay rent, has caused me to give up my job, keeps me awake at night and frequently hurts me. Living with it has changed my body, my emotions and my lifestyle. I have gone on vacation a few times, but the little creep always ends up hitching a ride.

When I first learned about my “guest” I was sure it would soon kill me. The statistics at that time were 3 to 5 years before the bastard would take all it could from me, then take me down with itself. Today I am in the middle of that time frame. I feel good about keeping my resident enemy passified for another year, and hopefully many more.

On March 9, 2016 my resident evil doer was introduced to me as Advanced, Metastatic, non curable, Prostate Cancer. It has played a role in each of these 1,461 days and it will be with me for the rest of my life. It might live with me forever but I will NEVER call it a friend.

Prostate Cancer is the second most common cancer among men (skin cancer is #1.) If you are a man, ask your doctor about Prostate Cancer starting at age 50. Ask at age 45 if your family has a history of Prostate Cancer.

Thank you for posting. I am in a very similar situation, similar diagnosis and treatments. I congratulate you and living and writing so well. What do you think has helped you survive?

Hi onajourney

Like your literary slant on the way you talk about the resident guest in you. For me it’s more like An Occupant, who does not want to vacate plus incurring overdue rentals!!!

Even after I call in the experts...whom have blasted it, x-rayed it, medicated it but to no avail. In fact, got the bad news my occupant is here to stay.

I even when on a forum to seek out others opinions and experiences, however, every time I think I am onto a new lead to get rid of it, the occupant gets a whiff of my new methods and builds up his walls faster than I can say, “Yes!!!”.

So keep your sanity with you and enjoy the present 🎁 Take care Brother 😎

Four years since those homeless little bastards decided to move into your basement.

Not easy to evict them...... no lease, no security deposit, no rent.... Just make sure they only live in your basement......... Dirty little dickheads

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
