Genetics found nothing

Got back my genetics testing to try to answer the question why I would get high grade Gleason 8 prostate cancer at the age of 48, and if there is any drug that will help target my cancer better. Genetics said my genetic test shows nothing that make me higher risk for cancer of any type, and they are scratching heads again.

"Your genetic testing did not find any harmful hereditary mutations in the genes that were evaluated. Thus, we do not have an explanation for your personal and family history of cancer."

I have to conclude that my body was high risk for cancer because of a stressful job that caused me to take up to 10 Gaviscon Extra Strength tablets daily for acid re-flux. This went on for about 10 years. Such tablets drained me of essential vitamins, including Vit D. I developed osteoporosis with fractures years before I was diagnosed with cancer and years before starting any ADT drugs for cancer.

I was always very active in fun recreational sports and worked out in the Gym. My Vit D test came out extremely low when my I was finally diagnosed with both cancer and osteoporosis, but it was too late. I started managing the acid re-flux with natural green juices and more green in my diet. I started bisphosphonates for bone density.

Lesson learned, if you have acid re-flux caused by stress, manage it with natural methods if possible. Watch your general health, your bone density, especially watch your Vit D levels.

Trying to blame something is pointless. There are hundreds of genes that have been implicated in prostate cancer, alone or in combination. They only test for a few dozen of them, and not the interactions. There are also environmental and epigenetic factors, and your unique immune system. The best way to maintain bone density is what you were doing - weight-bearing exercise.

My Guardant360 test also found nothing. No mutations that would ID cancer dna genes. Why I’m asking myself ? Why?

Hey abmicro!

If you have reflux that needs immediate attention try a little Arm & Hammer baking soda.

For long term you are on the right track. Fermented sauerkraut, the type in glass jars stored in refrigerated section and usually organic has been helpful to many eliminating reflux. A forkful in the morning and evening seems to work for severe cases. The enzymes in the sauerkraut are what stops the reflux.

Did you ever have any lumbar or pelvic ex-rays? A barium enema?

I no longer have that high stress job, and no longer have acid re-flux. Resolved it with green juice, and ultimately quitting my job and going on disability after cancer reached stage 4.

I will remember that and eat more der Wienerschnitzel brat dogs with Sauerkraut. Brat Brat Brat.

I am in the same situation with my GERD...acid does affect PC I believe...and my Health Providers told me to take OTC I.,e Gaviscon; works like a charm but only when I need to. Being on a Fiber Rich diet helps tremendously.

I’m checked for B12, Vitamin D levels..I was told the Vitamin D Level for me would be between 30-80 but 60 is prudent. So I take 150,000iu Vitamin D once a week + an extra 1,000 daily as I have Osteoporosis and guarding against bone Mets.

Hey Bro,

The fact is that you and I have it (My gleason is 9) with no genetic abnormalities. We have to accept that it is. No blame, and be in the best place we can be knowing we got a bad break.

I am lucky that I have no mets as yet, although into this battle for 10 years now. That's a big plus for me! I'm reasonably healthy! Life and this disease and how it is treated takes a lot from us. Spirit is what we have to rise above what has been taken and still be Happy Humans.

How we perceive what is happening to us, and how we decide to act, even with the fear of premature death is what defines us. I'm not saying I don't tank for an hour, or a day or more. I do! However I do choose to come back stronger and happier.

So grieve what you lost (good God we all have lost a lot of what is normally defined as being a man) And then find some beautiful thing to make you smile. A sunset, A sunrise, A tree, Those who love and support you.

Peace be the journey!

Beeson

You are lucky. No mets 10 years out. I got my first bone met at 12 years out. It was small and it barely showed up on an MRI and a bone scan. Kaiser did not want to do anything about it but Dr Charles E Myers recommended immediate treatment. I lied to Kaiser and said I was having pain there. Kaiser radiated it. Got my longest cancer free remission ever. Ongoing scans and labs were cancer free.

Keep watching out for your bones. Quick detection and treatment of that first met can give you another long remission.

Not what you're looking for?
