Casodex and Lupron

I had surgery in 2014, SRT in 2018, an axium scan last week that show uptake of PC in left nodes. My oncologist says he can microwave it. I will take casodex and lupron. Do I start taking casodex before lupron injection.

He can "microwave" it...Ha ..ha..ha.. Interesting choice of words.

Casodex is usually given for first 2 to 3 weeks before starting Lupron ..to prevent testosterone flare..its a normal way of starting lupron ADT.

You start the Casodex for about 10 days before the Lupron. The idea is to block all your androgen receptors, because Lupron initially causes a surge in testosterone. After a few weeks on Lupron, you can stop the Casodex, since it adds very little at that point. Some guys start with Firmagon for a couple of months before moving on to Lupron. In that case, Casodex is not needed.

When you had your SRT in 2018, were your pelvic lymph nodes treated?

Tall Allen I took the Firmigon 1st route. Gallium PSMA scan showed remaining cancer cells in prostate bed and a lymph node. Scan gave radiation oncologist a great roadmap.

I had complete removal of the prostate and then 38 Radiation treatments that ended about 2 weeks ago. The plan is to wait and hope it doesn't show back up on the future tests. Am I wrong for being optimistic?

No. They assumed that the cancer was in the prostate bed

no

In a way, that's good because they can now treat the entire pelvic lymph node area (from as high as the common iliacs) with a boost to the detected ones. Your individual anatomy and visceral fat (more is better in this case) will determine expected toxicity.

Thanks,TA, that’s exactly what my oncologist intends to do. I have not had my first injection yet so I guess I should start on the casodex.

What about a Gallium Scan in this case vs. Auximin?

He's already planning on irradiating all pelvic lymph nodes.

I was on a hormone kemo pill for 7 years till it quit working. Complete removal and surrounding area in 2010, 48 rounds Radiation 2012 when it came back with a vengeance and the pills worked until Oct 2019. Started lupron, first 30 day shot raised psa and second 90 day shot even higher.when psa stared doubling in less then 3-1/2 weeks added Zytiga, pregnezone Calcium’ and vitamin D. Will find out more May when repeat ct and bone scan. I think each oncologist tries something different

Good luck to you and all others who fight this

I agree with Nalakrats. I have been on both Lupron and Cassodex for 16 months. Knock on wood, PSA below 1.0 and bone mets are dormant.

The day mets confirmed, an injection of Lupron and a script for Casodex and told to fill immediately. I did. Took for two weeks. Casodex ten days before injection? Look when Mets are confirmed take the injection, then the

Casodex, why wait to fill a script, then go back to get an injection of Lupron?

I started on Casodex about 3 weeks before starting on Lupron, and continued with both for six months. Hot flashes were never an issue. In fact, side effects were minimal. This ADT2 was at the instruction of Dr. Anthony D'Amico, from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

How did the radiation go? Did your PSA dropped to undetected?
