SURPRISE

No one knows when their number will come due

And that is a kind of immortality,

never being sure.

Even if the court sentences you to hang on midnight of such and such a date.

Anything can happen.

I think of Jesus awakening in the tomb

And whispering to the echoing stone, “Alright...”

He was pretty sure it would go like this.

Still, this was amazing.

I spend too much time trying to devine my future

But then I realize I don't want to know for sure

I am frightened about what's to come

But the inevitable is part of everyones life

So I march on and I pretend

not to care when it will end
