7 months back, my 87 year Dad began Xtandi. Because of my advocating, he is only taking one am odd number days of the month and one am and pm even number days of the month. Initially, His Oncologist prescribed 3 tablets, 2 x daily. His prostate surgery was 16 years ago. His history: At 35, he was an attack Naval A-4 jet pilot, LtCmdr, VA 163, VA 125, and another I can't remember at this time. Three tours in Vietnam. Yes exposed to Agent Orange on the ground during special ops in North Vietnam. At 62, his prostate was removed and he received radiation for one month post surgery. At 71, his PSA was elevated and hormone therapy began. .
What I have noticed with Xtandi is tiredness and memory as he can remember what he wants to say after some time but can't pull it up quickly. He has Lupron injections every 3 months. Has beat rib bone metasteses 3 years ago. Oh and he had heart stent surgery 4 months back. I live full time and am his caregiver, driver, cook and companion as Mother passed 11 years back. They were a Navy partnership for 58 years, as Dad is retired 4 star Admiral. Not sure why I am blogging all this, but I know it is theraputic for me to write, and I offer you hope, love and empathy along this path. We are on this shitty CA journey together. My Brother and Mother gone from CA DX in 2008, sister a survivor, DAD fighting. Having the profession of a Holistic Practitioner and Caregiver, I know this will be my last Job, DAD. I note all the Silver Linings daily. May you know you are loved.

My heart goes out to you. Take care of yourself. At 87 your dad has lived a full and apparently successful life. Especially since his life includes making you.
Thanks for posting this about a true hero, your father.
My 87-year old father had a seizure while on Xtandi. This is one of the known side effects. You might advocate for a switch to abiraterone (Zytiga).
On another note, have you pursued compensation for your Dad because of his exposure to Agent Orange? I have several friends who are receiving benefits.
Yes Dad is 100% disabled: Agent orange, heating loss. He chooses to only use Audiology appointments from VA. Wants other vets in extremis to have access. Dad is also retired from 2 Tech boards. We are at ER as I write now. Another heart attack.... prayers please.
Really sorry to hear about your Dad. In an earlier reply someone mentioned Abiraterone as a possible alternative. Another possible alternative is Darolutamide. The brand name is Nubeqa. Most of the drug doesn’t break the blood brain barrier so it doesn’t have a lot of the cognitive impacts as Xtandi. Might be worth a discussion with your oncologist. Hope your Dad gets through the heart attack okay. Take care.
Well of course we all thank your Dad for his service. I was in the army and never made officer, so I have to salute him. I am having difficulting remember words and names. It's definitely the meds... I am happy to see he's back home and resting. Give him my best regards as I pipe him aboard this site. And you dear daughter should get a chest full of medals for being your Dad's advocate.🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
For your Dad only: What does it mean when the pilot of a Naval A-4 jet is drooling out of both sides of his mouth?
