Bucket List Week

What do you think of this idea?

Bucket List Week

A week where you commit to completing (or begin) one item on your "things to do before I die" list. Just one thing: a place to visit, a person to call, a skill to start. If it requires some planning, then use Bucket List Week to plan and to commit to it by, for example, buying a ticket or making a reservation. Otherwise, use Bucket List Week to complete one thing that you want to do before you die.

As an experiment, I suggest the week of November 10. In the USA, that week has a Monday holiday, too. Please reply with your thoughts, below. Consider the motivation a gift from Malecare.

Think that’s a great idea! Getting going on a bucket list at any stage of PCa is the best suggestion I could give.

While we only got a short chance and a few items knocked off our list, I feel blessed we had the opportunity to do some and what joy and happiness it brought to us both in accomplishing them. I am forever grateful for those memories...

Darryl,

I love the idea! We all spend so much time going to doctors and tests, that we forget to enjoy life.

Such a great idea. We always think we will do things “later”. And before PCa , figured we had lots of years to do so. After all, we’re not old yet!!! But life catches up with us.

A great idea. I'm in. there used to be a promotional thing - a round disc with TUIT printed on it. It was a round tuit - now you could do all those things you were going to do as soon as you got around to it. (a round tuit) (chuckle)

Hi Darryl,

I object to Bucket Lists because (1) they distract us from what we should be doing, i.e., living in the present. Much of the time our minds seem to be occupied with future plans or past mistakes, regrets or successes so, consequently, there is often anxiety attached to these lists. In stead, we should travel our paths, in our own ways at our own paces. We do what we can without getting caught up trying to escape the present, which, actually is all we have.

I’m sorry Kuanyin, I respect what you’re saying but I have to partially disagree with your view.

We made a bucket list long before my husband’s diagnosis, things we wanted to see/do/try upon retirement. It wasn’t made due to regrets, past mistakes etc. It was made to motivate us. To do/try things we may not ever normally do. To create memories for and with our special someone.

Upon his diagnosis, our list drastically changed and yes we did use a new one to escape the present. I will never regret that. We ticked off nearly 2/3rds of our new list, all while fighting the disease, and I cherish every moment we had. And I thank him for that forever. Not every bucket list is full of travels or whatnot...

My best memory will be of a simple bucket list note we accomplished: coffee on the dyke overlooking the river holding hands and snuggling, laughing and forgetting for those moments that this disease would eventually take him...
