I begin this treatment next week - 1 round every other week. I read about its side-effects - my question - are there any other chemos out there with less that I could discuss with my doctor - I was to beat this so much but would like to know others who might have ideas.
thanks

I will be doing docetaxel 4th infusion this Wed out of 6 (one infusion every three weeks). Everyone of us reacts differently to it. I heard many horror stories about chemo treatment. Honestly, it was not as bad. Prep yourself well....eat minimum before infusion, drink a lot fluids, ...after infusion, continue to eat very light meals, rest if you must but do not become a couch potato, walk and exercise as much as your body allows you to. Have a positive expectation of good...I am sure a lot of the people here will provide you more advice. My prayers goes to you. God bless.
“Cabazitaxel worked better than docetaxel in human prostate cancer cells lines that were resistant to hormone treatment, both in terms of slowing cancer-cell growth and in its ability to kill cancer cells.”
My MO said Cabazetaxel is hard to get approved for the first round of chemo, but if you complain about SE’s you can make a case for approval in the following rounds.
This is one of my favorite interviews, up there with Dr Myers for combinational therapies. In fact, this interview helped me deciding to add Taxotere (Docetaxel), even though, currently, PSA <0.02.
"I view the optimal sequence as Zytiga (abiraterone) or Xtandi (enzalutamide), followed by wiping out the AR-V7 population with a chemo drug, and then going to Zytiga (abiraterone) or Xtandi (enzalutamide) next."
I'm doing this, but still taking daily Zytiga, also like taking another treatment other than ADT like, hitting the cancer with modalities of treatment.
my dad’s in the second cycle of docetaxel. it hasn’t been a party by any means, but i’ve certainly heard worse treatment stories.
cabazitaxel is the second line chemo traditionally but i know it can be obtained for first line chemo if your oncologist fights insurance for it— it’s said to be more gentle and the neuropathy risk is lower.
I’m on my 10th infusion of Docetaxel/Carboplatin since February. It’s working great and the side effects have been very manageable overall. Life has continued almost normally for me through it. The advice in this thread mirrors my experience. I would give it a shot and see how it goes.
I wasn’t clear sorry. Before chemo and during a two month holiday I did have progression and my PSA was rapidly doubling. Had some nasty pain issues too. When I’m on this combination all of these resolve quickly, but only when I’m on it. Can’t do it forever of course so in the process of lining up the next thing
Each person reacts differently. Docetaxel didn’t work for me. Currently on Jevtana and Carboplatin. PSA 156. I usually take about 8 days to get back to normal. I don’t think for me the side effects are that difficult. Just would like to see a positive result for a change. I hope your side effects are not difficult for you.
