I have been on Casodex monotherapy (50 mg) for about 75 days. I was diagnosed in 2002 and had no treatment until the Casodex. My PSA has come down incrementally from 950 to 60. However my fasting blood sugar has risen from 105 to 121. My A1c a month before I started Casodex was 6.5. Not on any medication for the diabetes. I will be seeing my medical oncologist on 7/17/19 and will ask him to send my bloodwork to my primary care physician. I have found that the docs pay more attention when they get a referral from another doc. I am looking for guidance on the blood sugar.
Thank you,
Joe

So ..you were diagnosed in 2002 and had no treatment until 2018 ? Please tell about how did you manage without treatment for 16 years ? Did you have metastasis at time of diagnosis?
Can you tell us more about yourself? All info is voluntary, but it helps us help you and helps us too. Thank you.

Man - you can get out of this hole! Sugar is probably the thing you need to fix to get well again. The Casodex is likely to stop working soon (stop it when the PSA stops going down). Little point in moving up to 150mg in that case.
You MUST keep the blood sugar down, as this feeds the cancer. A couple of slices of bread for lunch will give a 20-minute spike in sugar, with enough time and food for thousands of the buggers to duplicate themselves.
I use Jalra (Galvus generic) for blood sugar control, and I cut them in half when my numbers are good (and I and good!). Metformin would also work if it does not make you feel like you have been poisoned. If you are over-weight, your problems will not go away.
The real thing you need to do is get onto a strict raw diet for a while. Buy organic where possible, you need less of them. Commercial produce is full of poisons that cause cancer. Veggies, salads, nuts, real fruits, and smoothies. NOTHING cooked or out of a packet or bottle. ZERO sugar. Zero wheat. Zero or almost zero Dairy. Zero meat for a while (turn the corner first) Add vitamins like D3, minerals like zinc, chromium, selenium. Turmeric (lots), black pepper, garlic, and raw ginger root (lots of the latter - seems to help the sugar levels too). Eat 6 to 8 times a day. When the numbers start dropping, stop taking (or cut in half) the expensive poisons. Sleep, laughter and exercise are also good medicine. Think and act "healthy". Good luck!
Hi Joe, I used Casodex for about 4 weeks while I was starting 3 month shots of Lupron (Eligard = generic). I stayed on these shots for 6 1/2 years. Stopped the Casodex. I also had 72 radiations over eleven years, because I had metastatic bone cancer as well. Now I am cancer free. I am diabetic. I adjusted my insulin and diet and stayed on a normal diet. I did cut back on beef and pork, refined sugars and simple carbohydrates. I gained weight and ended up with kidney disease and heart disease. My oncologist suggested that I not loose weight while on Lupron. So now I can cut back on calories. My Vit D3 was low even though I took 2,000 IU daily. So watch all of your lab tests each time you are tested. I am not sure eating prepackaged foods is bad for cancer according to my doctor. My kidney doctor does require this type of diet and it is a pain in the butt. I keep a 6.1 A1C and that is by watching my blood sugars when I test 3 times a day. Keeping your blood sugar down is 90% of the problem with diabetes.
Do you understand that when your sugar is high (300 or above) the RBC's that are formed have too much sugar in the outside membrane? They are like M & M's. Then they are released into the blood stream for 4 months (until the spleen breaks them open). These cells do not exchange oxygen or CO2 in the lungs and they break open in the legs (causing gangrene). I eat 4 small meals to control my blood sugar. I have had diabetes for 35 years. I do not finish most meals, I leave food on the plate. When I exercise I eat more. I got two opinions from doctors before I started therapy for cancer. Ask a lot of questions.
