I'd never heard of AMP-K before. Found this article that gives a good explanation:

lifeextension.com/Magazine/...

It seems like something I should have made use of from several decades back. I'm considering trying a bottle.

Cant say thats a good idea, but according to this, one gets it inadvertently -selfhacked.com/blog/natural... This may help ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Its also a byproduct of metformin use- link.springer.com/article/1...

My question is whether anyone can speak to use of the commercial supplements.

thanks.

What a quandary! Fine tune the body and make it resist cancer - or - opps, you're making the cancer thrive.

Some years ago, Life Extension suggested that most of us might benefit from Metformin. Not surprisingly, doctors disagreed & refused to prescribe it. LEF responded with this:

lifeextension.com/Vitamins-...

on the basis that the main benefit of Metformin is AMPK activation.

Those who are not on Metformin - or not on the full dose (2,000 mg) - might want to consider it.

Agreed, been on metformin since dx after reading Snuffy’s book even before becoming a patient of his. My GP went along with it and wrote a script, probably figured why not, what’ve I got to lose? None of my other doctors have an issue with it, I’ve been able to lose a few pounds and maintain normal BMI while on ADT the entire time. I also exercise and eat a healthy diet. Publix supermarkets pharmacy provide it free of charge.

Patrick, do you have a view on the AMPK metabolic activator supplement compared with Berberine?

Graham,

LEF chose the Gencor product rather than berberine for their AMPK activator:

Berberine might be comparable - I don't know - but I would go with LEF on this.

My search revealed a Chinese herb called Jiaogulan (a type of Ginseng) as a source of Gynostemma pentaphyllum. Its listed on ebay and amazon.
