Zytiga clinical trial

Has there been a clinical trial for Zytiga without the inclusion of Prednisone? If not, how do they conclude Zytiga 'must be taken' with prednisone?

My husband has not been on the prednisone while taking Zytiga and his labs (every 6 wks - 3 months) have been completely normal. Potassium remains in the high-normal range. Blood pressure remains in normal range. No fluid retention.

Just wondering.

They concluded that based on the fact that Zytiga also shuts down cortisol production by the adrenals. It is a very low dose and is meant as a replacement dose only - if the dose is right, it should not have any side effects. Watch for edema.

watching for it all. It's in his 'tool box' to start up at any time. He is under observation.

Cortisol has wide ranging effects :

Low cortisol levels cause many long-term problems, and causes an accumulation of ACTH.

Is he taking eplenerone (Inspra)?. Inspra is an aldestorene receptor blocker and it may help to control the effects caused by the increase of aldosterone when taking Zytiga.

Actually, he was put on that for about two days when he was in the midst of cardiac issues a couple of months ago. It gve him a debilitatating headache so he dropped it and switched to amlodipine instead.

It is necessary for prevention of adrenocortical insufficiency:

Prednisone can cause an increased potassium--don't worry about that high normal potassium... Hope it is working well for him.....

You can use Dexamethasone instead of Prednisone. This trial reports better results with Dexamethasone:
