Foot pain

I have been a prostate cancer patient since 2011. I am eligard for the third time as the cancer has spread. I have experinced pain in several of my joints. Started in the left big toe, Just after it died down I had a flare up in my left heel. That subsided after prednisone. Then my right knee swelled up. More prednisone. Next it struck the 4th toe on right foot, followed by my right big toe. Has anyone experienced this type of pain (It is like gout which I have had in the past)? Is it a side effect? It keeps occuring in new places and subsides.

I have experienced the same . Random pains at times . It seamed that the foot is the first to get it . The big toe is the one . Mine got much better than it was during and after treatments . For me it was RT and double adt . No,T drives muscle and bone loss and I feel that it can drive pain while it is diminishing us .. Massage , Infared sauna , accupuncture all can help . I worked up some neuropathy in my hands and feet. It has greatly decreased since last year when I started taking Sam -E and lipoid acid under advice of my naturalpathic onocologist . I’m not prescribing just telling what helped me . I’m a natural food guy . My opinion is that turmeric , ginger , and several other anti inflammatory food will help . Also cutting the junk . If you haven’t already. Some say diet doesn’t help . That is loco . I didn’t want to take lyrica or other drugs , You can improve and rid most of that pain . Take care

I,got bursitis in my hips . MF painful ..adt RT and castration . No more macho man . 💪

Joint pain, especially in small joints like fingers and toes, is a not uncommon side effect of ADT drugs. I experienced it in my fingers with pain, stiffness, and trigger finger and also had some similar but smaller effects in my toes. Fingers are the most common place for it.

I don't know if that's your problem or not.

If it is, or maybe even if it's not, you may get some relief by using heat or cold, or best of all, alternating heat and cold. I would run my hands under hot water for a bit, then cold water, then hot again, etc. A few minutes of that made a big difference in my pain and stiffness. Motion and exercise also helped a lot. I did lots and lots of hand exercises and would flex my toes inside my shoes.

Good luck with it.

I had shots for very painful trigger finger...it came back in my thumb and forefinger. I am scheduled for surgery on those two in one week. Just wondering now if the surgery will work.

🤔

If you haven't tried it, it's possible that home treatment will work.

I did the following three things:

1. Slept with clenched fists. It took a little time to learn to keep them that way, but the fingers were better stretched that way overnight and less stiff and painful in the morning. You can put your hands in gloves with the glove fingers empty, but I found I didn't need to do that.

2. Treated the hands with alternating hot and cold water to temporarily reduce or eliminate pain and stiffness.

3. Performed massive amounts of hand exercise. I probably clenched and unclenched my fists thousands of times per day, often with either a hand exerciser (the kind with a metal spring holding two handles apart), or a rubber ball or similar thing. While driving I was squeezing the steering wheel. I kept a piece of rubber in my pocket to fiddle with all day long.

Since you have or had trigger finger in multiple fingers, I think there's good reason to believe that it's going to happen to other fingers too. I'm thinking it's not caused by a defect in your fingers, but by a side effect of the drugs you take. I'm not a doctor much less a hand surgeon and my advice may only be worth what you paid for it, but I think in your shoes I'd call up and delay the surgery - telling the doc you want to try physical therapy first.

Good luck.

Hi sandman954 and all

...with neuropathy etc

I am on ADT and get pain in legs after every long haul airline trip.

Last time my doctor sent me to emergency to investigate possible thrombosis in legs.

Thank God no thrombosis.

They prescribed Gabapentin and I almost rolled down the stairs, from the hospital

made me extremely unstable and sort of "drowsy'

Not acceptable !

I am chemist (no MD),

but researched the solutions

In Canada and Central Europe

Capsicin (Capsicum) ointments are sold without prescription in different strength,

or make your own with experimenting with blends of hot peppers in oil ,hot or cold,

mixing it with ointments eg NIVEA

(no advertising, just N. comes as a good emulsion.

Work like charm

pain disappears in minutes

legs get "hot"

Interesting effect!

Nothing new though

They used "poultices" of hot peppers in China and Latin America long time ago.

Good luck

BTW eat hot salsa

good source of anti carcinogenic chemicals like in nalakrats coffee extracts.

Cheers

As Sandman says Neuropathy or some kind of nerve problem. Given the Pred relieves it then likely inflammation affecting the nerves.

It can be sciatic related if pain can be felt from lower back down to the heel. Normally pain management to try and control it. They could try ametryptaline, Gabapentanin or another similar drug (google for US names) to get any pain under control.

You dont say if you have bone mets but this can increase nerve pain. Not everyone has the same symptoms so its difficult to label it exactly but numbness, tingling and shooting pains seems a nerve problem.

I stopped all gravy. Meat drippings contain a lot of purines that go to the bottom of the pan. Then the purines are converted into uric acid. hen the uric acid forms long thin crystals in your joints. I took Allopurinal, drank extra water, and changed my diet. Good luck.

What ? No more gravy? The sacrifices we make? Great job ! JVH

No foot pain but the hands and feet are another subject. Finger lockup, thumb pain, hands pretty much hurt most of the time. Tendons in the shoulders are a mess. Just a mass of pain but better than the alternative 🤪🤪🤪🤪. Fighting the monster.

geoff, I agree that gout is one [of several] possibilities. First thing, get a uric acid blood test to confirm/deny. Unfortunately, these ADT drugs can cause bone problems for some. Gout appears to be less frequent; I've experienced it twice within 24 hrs of my Lupron shot--in 17 yrs!

in reply to herb1

I salute you herb1, 17 yrs you know what you’re talking about . Thanks .

My Doctor says the same ,thank you , he says “ you look great”! He didn’t see me before . Looks can be deceiving . I hav3 no right to complain . My body ,mind ,strength , and stamina all weakened but with love I’m happy 90% of 5he time . The 10% is bad . I’m happy to be alive . Most days I feel washed up with little NRG ...I have no brutal pain right now .. even worry it temporarily on hold . In contact with good people such as yourself here on HU helps a lot .Thanks for you caring post . 💪
