unexplained pain on the top of big toe
Consider circulatory problems. Do you have history of diabetes. Not from Mets.
I am obviously not certain about the cause of your pain but can speak of my pain & 'needles' feeling in my toes. Two primary reasons that I am certain of: 1) poor circulation, almost certainly smoking caused, and 2) 2+ years chemotherapy causing ongoing neurapathy pain. All Best Wishes, judg69
Any chance it is gout? Is it in the joint of the toe?
No gout, that I know of, I was reading apc could be sciatic, cancer pressing on nerve, starting from the spine, no one has mentioned this, so I guess for now I'll gladly go with bad circulation from sitting, I don't want to blow this way out of proportion ty for your response 8knots
Do you have mets on your spine?
not that I know of, that's why I'm trying to get to the bottom of this toe deal, psa still low, no scan sense dia in 10-2014, ty Lu
It’s common to think every pain is mets . Thank god they are not. Just throwing a dart in the dark I think it’s neauropathy .. our feet have so many nerve endings that they along with hands they are first areas to feel arthritis and neauropathy .
I am rpresently receiving Docetaxil chemotherapy, 10 treatments, each 3 weeks . I have experienced numerous side effects, but none greater than the effects on my feet and legs, aching soreness in the great toe of my left foot, neuropathy in my feet, now lymphedema of my right leg with aching thighs and calves. After ah MRI, I learned the edema was not due to obstructed blood flow, All these symptoms seem related to the Docetaxil. Perhaps your symptom is related to a medication?
I’m not aware of your medication regimen, but if you are taking a biphosphonate, make sure you are supplementing with Calcium and Vit D3. Numbness, tingling and or pain in hands/feet is one of many signs/symptoms of hypocalcemia (low calcium).
I've had my Calcium & d-3 covered a few yrs now, plus other supplements, Vit b-c-e up'ed d-3 cuz of Mich. winter, most likely will leave it up yr round ty Sherpa
Probably not gout. Had an experience with that, bones near big toe. Worst pain imaginable and guarantee you would already be at doctor begging for help. Got drugs for that. Carried mine around with me for a year, just in case. Good luck, sure it make sleeping hell.
right foot or left foot? (what a stupid question).
Direct from Dr. Google (no charge):
If your big toe is numb, or if you are having on-again, off-again episodes of numbness, consider this as a warning sign that something bigger is going on. One of those bigger things that can make your big toe numb is a pinched or irritated nerve in your low back. Big toe numbness can also be caused by things like poor circulation or even a pinched nerve between the toes themselves, but it’s more commonly due to a nerve, specifically the L5 spinal nerve in the lower back as this is the nerve that branches all the way from the spine down to the big toe.
But wouldn’t my back hurt if I had a pinched nerve in my low back? Not necessarily. The numbness in the big toe could be that first early-warning sign, and if it isn’t addressed back pain or stiffness might develop. On the other hand, you could have a pinched nerve in your low back and not experience back pain or other back symptoms.
What can cause the L5 spinal nerve to become pinched or irritated? There are a number of things. A bulging or herniated disc. An injury to the back. Even inflammation from arthritis pressing on the nerve. Any of these conditions can cause the foramen, the tunnel that travels out of the spinal column and houses the spinal nerve, to narrow. This narrowing is called foraminal stenosis, and it can cause spinal nerves to become pinched. So if one of these issues has made your big toe numb, having the spinal nerve nonsurgically addressed with PT or an injection of platelet growth factors sooner rather than later will save you a lot of headache in the long run.
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
