Anyone facing leg edema with zytiga? I can feel my left leg swelling a bit after i start zytiga. I am also under chemo cycle. Can this be side effect of chemo as well? How do you manage it?

Sorry I don't have any experience with edema with Zytiga, but I had a similar problem with Xtandi (Enzalutamide) . Oncologist had to lower dose. / I would ask your oncologist asap as mine became quite painful but resolved quickly once new dosing was initiated. Contact your Oncologist right away!

I have pretty good swelling in the ankles from time to time with the Zytiga usually happens when I am quite active, walking on beach, out with friends etc. Thought it was brought on by drinking lots of alcohol. My Oncologist assured me it was the walking not the booze😜 I elevate my legs and that usually takes care of it in a couple of days

My swelling is pretty less and not painful, but yes it increases when I work on chair and decreases with night sleep. I will do the elevation trick. Thank you so much...

I have swollen feet from Zytiga/Lupron. Elevating feet at night and the use of compression socks have helped quite a bit. Strangely enough I've also started using an electric foot massager that seems to help the most. It shakes the feet all the way up to the knees and seems to also help restore some feeling to my feet that is caused by neuropathy from MS. You may also want to discuss your prednisone dose with your doctor. If it's not enough you may see some swollen feet from it.

Zytiga can cause edema if the amount of prednisone is not enough to control the increase in ACTH and aldosterone, Talk with your doctor about increasing prednisone. Chemo can also cause edema which would improve after treatment.

If you are already taking 10 mg of prednisone, you could discuss adding eplrenone which is an aldosterone receptor blocker.

They need to check electrolytes, particularly potassium.

Best of luck!!

Edema can occur with Zytiga when the prednisone dose is too low. Discuss with your oncologist, and ask for blood pressure and serum potassium levels.

Yes, I had swelling in my legs and feet and my blood pressure went up to 210/110 with Zytiga, Soumen79.

Tall_Allen led me to an article that indicated that prednisone should be upped from 5 mg a day to 10mg.

I convinced my doctor to increase the prednisone to 5mg twice daily to see if it would help.

The swelling disappeared within a few days and my blood pressure is back down to normal numbers like 117/73, etc.

Great, my blood pressure still regular, swelling is also mild, today I keep my foot up for 30 mins and dis ankle upward press exercise, immediately swelling diminishes.

I am already taking prednisone 10mg, today I also discussed with doctor, he is not worried, he thinks it might be due to chemo.

Thank you so much for sharing the experience, thanks!!

I started on 1g abiraterone (Zytiga) and 5mg prednisone last August, and by November my feet and ankles were very obviously swollen. Adding 25mg/day of chlorthalidonee (a diuretic) did a lot more to drive the swelling down close to normal than changing to 10 mg prednisone (which I also did, on-and-off for other reasons.)

This is a well known side effect of Taxotere, if that is your chemo. It is usually acceptable, but can be dangerous if too large a fluid load. Talk to your doctor who I believe you said agreed that it was the chemo. You can minimize your salt intake to reduce swelling.
