ADT forever once you start ?

Just curious, can you ever get off Lupron RO says I will be on this for 24 to 33 months after I get brachytherapy and EBRT . I’m Gleason 10 no Mets on pet scan . Are there any men that are free of medication after recommended protocol and undetectable PSA levels ?

After the 24 or 33 months you can stop the medication and see how the PSA value develops. There is a trial that recommends just 18 months instead:

My RO says he will discuss with my MO 6 months after completion of IMRT and will likely stop ADT and monitor PSA. So it’s an intermittent approach. I’m G8 oligometastatic bone Mets. I’m on the phase II EXTEND trial at M D Anderson.

I was on ADT for 26 months starting in August 2012. I was diagnosed with a Gleason 9 and mets to pelvic lymph nodes and bladder. I stopped ADT in October 2014 and have been off it, and all other cancer treatments, ever since. My PSA was < 0.1 while on ADT and since going off slowly went up to 0.2 and has stayed there for several years now.

I wasn't so lucky...I stopped ADT after 4 years on it and my PSA went from undetectable to 2.5 in 18 months. Subsequent scans revealed multiple mets. Were they there all the time? Unknown. Back on it for the past year and my doctor says it will be for life. In fact, he may add Casodex to shut down testosterone produced by the adrenal glands.

Each ADT drug will reach maximum benefit. A which point you should move on to the next.

Why would you even think it's permanent if they told you 24-33 months?

I read so many post that state once Lupron stop working they went on to another type of Medecine , like prednisone , etc I guess my question should have been once you do ADT does that mean your body will need another form of meds to keep Psa levels low.

Nope. Unless there's evidence that the cancer has escaped the prostate, it's just "high risk" not "advanced."

So I’ll find your posts by searching under your name or under estradiol? I’m talking patches not pills. I feel better, T is castrate and psa is declining .

I had 42 radiations in 2007. In 2011 they found bone metastases and I had 30 more radiations and started Lupron (Eligard - generic) every 3 months. I stayed on Lupron for 6 1/2 years and now I have no signs of cancer. So that would be 78 months. Life is good.
