Abiraterone + ADT feedback please

I have been reading this forum for several months and found it very helpful in broadening my knowledge and understanding of this disease. This is my first post. I am a Scot living in Spain and being treated in the Spanish health system, which I have found to be very good.

In January 2016 I was diagnosed with Pca Stage 4 PSA 20 Gleason 5+4. 2 bone mets but no mets in lymph nodes or organs Was prescribed Decapetyl (ADT) first at 3 monthly then 6 monthly injections. Within 3 months PSA 0.74 Testosterone 0.2 . 3 Months later PSA 0.2 and stayed there about 2 years then at 3 monthly intervals went up to 0.5, 0.9, 1.5 and latest 3.3. Got bone and CT scan last month and there was no change from scans 3 years ago.. To deal with increasing PSA my urologist is recommending abiraterone and ADT combination.

Has anyone had this combination? Any comments on effectiveness, side effects, effect on quality of life gratefully received.

I have been in both for 18 months. If you work out hard (lifting weights is best in n my opinion) and watch what you eat, you can easily live with the side affects. The two together have shown to reduce deaths almost 40% vs either alone.

Many thanks for this. I am 74 and otherwise in good health . I walk my dogs 2 hours a day about 8 kilometers total and do flexing exercises I will add some weights to this. I eat a low carb, low fat diet with fruit and veg. I also drink about half a litre of wine a day with lunch and dinner which my urologist seems think is OK. Any problems with Abiraterone and alcohol?

I hope not. I’m afraid to ask 🙈. I try and drink less but I don like a little vodka soda now and then. We still need to enjoy our lives. My PSA is down to .02 and I stop everything in three months and then they will monitor me to see how I do. I also have Addit Zometa and Celebrex which was proven in clinical trials to reduce deaths from advanced prostate cancer By over 20% With minimal side effects. But I use a reduced dose of Zometa. Finally I had SBRT radiation on my three bone Mets which later studies seem to indicate will extend my life with minimal risk. Hit it hard and early.

Good to see the Spanish reference. The scottish dialect version is ' There's a moose loose aboot this hoose ' . Interesting thought but you would need to explain the significance in this context (if there is any). Your good wishes are greatly appreciated. It sounds like a toast so I will raise my glass to you and all members of this forum a little later. I think we have a very special bond.
