Hi I just got a psa of 25. Still stunned, what happens next? I know I do have an enlarged prostate but was told that it was benign.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

How big is your prostate? Any signs of prostatitis? - Did he feel hardness during the digital rectal exam?
Thanks for getting back to me All enjoy,
My prostrate is enlarged, it has been for years and I have been attending urology.
It had become more difficult to urinate and at my last visit they set me up with a nurse to learn how to self catheterise.
When I got home I felt like my body had been invaded. I had riggers twice, lost complete control of my bladder. The worst seemed to pass overnight, but I was weak. I had my PSA test several days later. My doc said there was a possibility of the high PSA because of the catheter???
Is that likely?
Thanks,
Andy.
how big is your prostate exactly? finding out your psa density is important
Get to a cancer doc immediately. They may be able to catch it before it spreads. Please dont hesitate. I am not a medical doctor.
Hate to say wait and see but a lot of doctors would want to do another PSA next month to see if it is rising. Me I would have a full blood panel done, a ct scan with contrast and a mri to get a visual picture of what’s going on. The monster is a sneaky SOB. If you catch it before it leaves the prostate you have a great chance of living a long time. Fight a good fight 🙏🙏🙏
If it is not cancer, then check into Uro-Lift.
Size of your prostate, your age, the possibility of prostatitis and self catheterizing could all contribute as could a lab mistake.
If the self catherization was as traumatic as you describe perhaps you should have waited a few more days before testing.
A friend who tests his PSA often had a rise from a 4 something to a 14.7 in about 6 weeks. It can be upsetting. He tested again in about a week and his PSA was in the 4 range again. Was it a lab mistake? He hadn't been through a learning experience such as you regarding self catherization. Nothing unusual for him other than the number.
Are you prescribed anything to reduce the size of your prostate?
Have you had a really good mp 3.0 T MRI done and read by an expert? Dr. Busch in Chattanooga, Tennessee is highly regarded by many men in the states. See if you can find someone with similar expertise near you.
There are also some tests that might reveal cancer. Nalakrats or Tall_Allen would be most knowledgeable about which tests would be the best.
Don't panic yet, retest.
Thank you so much for your reply. Everything you have said makes sense.
I was very down yesterday when I posted. I believe, apart from the trauma, that I contracted a UTI as my urine became cloudy and smelly. (It still is).
So a retest asap is the order of the day.
I lost two good friends last year, and watching the slow and painful decline put the fear of God in me.
I also have ckd4, and have found this forum to be a source of great support and help. A big thank you to all who replied.... your advice and wisdom is very much appreciated.
How do they know it is benign? What tests have they done? I had a PSA of 25.4. I had an MRI which showed a lesion. A biopsy then showed PCa, Gleason 8. I had a radical prostatectomy and the PSA is now undetectable.
My husband had a prostate of over 100 g. His PSA rose, a little at a time, from 2003 to 2014. Biopsies were always negative, so the rise was attributed to BPH. In order to resolve the "BPH," a robotic simple prostatectomy was done in 2014. The tumor, that had most likely been there since 2003, was found in pathology. Be very careful of the large prostate and a diagnosis of "only" BPH.
My prostate was more than 50 cc, and I had BPH- (and likely tumor)-related urinary issues. Digital rectal exams were always "unremarkable" as were prostate ultrasounds. When PSA rose from 4 to 8, I was prescribed Cipro, for some never-identified UTI. (later ID'd and treated as ureaplasma after a $175 test that almost no one does) I'm currently part of a class action suit against Cipro makers, because it causes peripheral nerve damage. Docs know this, and still they prescribe it, when, in situations like mine, and your husband's, they should do an MRI. I then paid for my own MRI which found a large prostate tumor. A friend had 3 negative trans rectal biopsies, and when his PSA continued to climb, he demanded a fusion MRI-guided trans-perineal biopsy, which finally found his tumours. There is a lot of inertia and resistance in the medical profession, and in the government programs which fund them (if you're lucky.) I find it hard to believe that MRI costs more than a biopsy, as an effective Dx tool, when TRUS biopsies are maybe 65% accurate.
My husband reduced his enlarged prostate with Crinum Latifolium. He took 3 month dose and now maintains with tea and tinctures. He got his from crinumlatifoliumdirect.com
He also made some dietry changes cutting out sugary drinks and eating more salads.
