My starting PSA....

My starting PSA was 10.4. Took another psa test Following week and psa dropped to 8.5 along with another type ( can’t remember the name) but the numbers were 104 and that was the number he was concerned with.2 weeks later I had my biopsy and results were cancer with a Gleason 10. Had mri and bone scans done within 3 weeks after biopsy and proved cancer hadn’t spread beyond prostate. Got my date to start my radiation treatments and my doctor gave me my 1st Lupron shot .3 weeks later had another psa before my radiation treatments starting date and psa came back at 1.2 with the 1shot before radiation start. Had 2nd Lupron shot before finishing radiation.finished 45 treatments now and scheduled for another Lupron and psa test in 2 months. He told me that this was a 2 year program. Has anybody’s psa dropped that much just with the 1st Lupron shot before radiation treatments? It just seems strange to me that the numbers could come down that quick before treatments.

It shows that your cancer is mostly castration sensitive at this time.

That is a good and an expected reaction to Lupron.

You are lucky . My psa also dropped with my second shot and has stayed down 4 yrs .. now you’re goal is to keep it down a good long time friend . Castration is the first line of defense with APC . This drop is a great sign for you .. now you want to keep it going as long as possible I’ve only had RT and adt .. You will see some side effects most likely ,The best side effect is life .

Why didn’t you have surgery if it was contained? Especially being a Gleason 10. I would have wanted it out!

I wanted to but my doctor suggested radiation at my age (75). He also said that I could run into complications with surgery and still have to have radiation treatments. As long I am still working out ,proper meds and diet, I’ll conquer.....I did go through my 45 treatments with no side affects and feel good so I just have to follow their instructions and stay positive.

"Had mri and bone scans done within 3 weeks after biopsy and proved cancer hadn’t spread beyond prostate." ..... that can be seen--microscopic disease is still possible. Glad to hear you got RT. Many authorities think those who have seminal vesicle invasion are at greater risk for distant metastasis. This is thought to be due to the increased vascularity of the seminal vesicles. The RT (Radiation Treatment) I assume was for any microscopic Pelvic extension of P-Ca. The ADT has systemic/whole body effects. This does not answer your question but gives you some backround you might find helpful ..... if you do not already know this.

My 1st 20 days, they treated all around my prostate to be sure that it didn’t spread beyond and then they concentrated on my prostate for the next 25 days. No side effects from treatments and very little from the Lupron...I’m very satisfied so far and feeling better since my final treatment 9 days ago.
