I’m seeing my oncologist on Monday and I’m not sure what I should be asking him. I am nearly five years into Pca and have been on Lupron (prostrap) three monthly injections with very low dose steroid all that time. My psa dropped from 180 to 6 in that time. I didn’t expect to stay on lupron for so long and I just can’t work out why but I have noticed some on here have had long survival on lupron but with a lower psa than I’ve got to. Should I be pushing for more powerful drugs/chemo etc or just be grateful lupron is doing its job. Met pain in hip disappeared very early on in treatment and only the the usual side effects (flushes, lack of sex drive (zero in fact) weight gain, and a bit of fatigue. I keep fit gym walking etc and am a veggie and 72.
Any advice appreciated and can I take this opportunity to thank so many of you on here for all the information and advice you hand out this site has been a god send. I do try occasionally to add my thoughts which I hope are of some use to someone.

I’d ask about adding chemo or Zytega. Early use with those drugs (chemo with more than 4 mets and Zytega with any amount of mets) has been proven to reduce deaths by some 40% vs either alone.
Sounds like you are doing really well. Do question the steroids--what for??
Roger, You are in England and as such, metastatic prostate cancer treatment varies from that of the Colonies....... and treatment, via clinical trials varies just as much in the Colonies....... it boils down to Standard of Care........
You are taking a low dosage of a Glucocorticoid with your hormonal therapy. Glucocorticoids are used in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer to slow disease progression, improve pain control and reduce side effects of hormonal therapy. They are also used with chemotherapy. Note: I took a much higher dose of Prednisone daily for six months as this drug is believed to cause PCa cell apoptosis and self destruct.
I would expect you to be on hormone therapy until it longer works in suppressing your cancer.
