Anyone on Apalutamide? (Erleada) Might start it, not Provenge, in Feb. if chest&full-body CT scans in a week don't show metastesizing. Problems with it? Downsides? Upsides? Preparation complexities?
My stats:
Diagnosed 13 years ago at age 59 with inoperable irradiatable (due2Porphyria) PCa - PSA was 23 in 2006. Gleason: high score (100% of 14 samples malignant, seminal vesicles OK).
On Lupron-only mostly continously for 13 years, but now resistant past year. Latest PSA=14, crept up from 0 at 13 yrs ago after that first injection. Casodex discontinued due to recurrent shingles (58 outbreaks when 1 is more than enough! 4gramsValtrex daily now keeps it from recurring).
No metastasis yet says 2 recent pelvic CT Scans and a 2009 fb bone&skull CT scan.
I started Erleada about 7 months ago. PSA 4.0 when I started Erleada. First PSA test about 2 months later was 0.6. That was great news, then PSA started to climb: 0.7, 0.9, 1.3. Next test early March. Only new side effect was very high blood pressure. Cardiologist added a third drug to control BP. I have been fighting this demon for more than 22 years.
Friday Update:
AetnaMedicarePPO insurance denied last night their pre-certification for Monday's chest CT scan that was to have looked for lung mets. They recommended a chest Xray instead, so I did that this morning (it showed "normal").
Wondering, would a regular chest Xray (rather than CT scan) prove there are no mets? Seems odd to me that an Xray would be as good as a CT scan?
Getting a full body nuclear bone scan on Monday to look for bone mets, assuming insurance pre-certifies that. If no mets show, then oncologist will start me on Apalutamide (Erleada) soon.
