I started with a PSA of 30. I underwent radiation therapy and Brachy therapy while I was on Lupron. My PSA was near zero in about a year’s time. I still continue on Lupron

I just got a call from MO today. Had my first Lupron shot on Nov 26 (2018). Had my blood work last Wednesday. MO calls to let me know first what PSA is before my appointments. Next appointment is Wednesday. I have never had a high PSA. Diagnosed at 12. Went through DaVinci and came out after at . 024

Persistent .

That was 2016. Doubled every 3 to 5 months. After metastases found started on Zytiga ( andLupron). PSA was 1.99 last November. Now 0.03. Does it go to 0? My testosterone went from 708 to less than 10 so Lupron is doing its job there!

At Dx, my PSA 1000+, after 3 months of ADT, Eligard, Casodex and Zytiga/Prednisone, current PSA 0.36, Testosterone <3 ng/dL. Well, for us patients this looks promising, we have hormone sensitive PCa...

But, but, but, there's research about PSA nadir, the velocity of reaching undetectable PSA post ADT. Findings: reaching PSA nadir post PCa Dx with ADT treatment, suggests aggressive characteristics, which will lead to castrate resistance.

Interesting, my doc is Mark Pomerantz, DFCI, just had a visit last week, he mentioned I'm doing great, my PSA 0.36 is promising.

Oh, my Queens NYC instincts detected a pretence, do your own research folks, will present this to my doc next visit...

Does Lupron actually kill any cancer cells ?

in reply to Firespooks

Simple answer, no. However, it helps. If you want to kill cancer cells, then you hav3 to do something else. Androgens stimulate prostate cancer cells to grow. The main androgens in the body are testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Most of the androgens are made by the testicles, but the adrenal glands (glands that sit above your kidneys) also make a small amount. Lowering androgen levels or stopping them from getting into prostate cancer cells often makes prostate cancers shrink or grow more slowly for a time. But hormone therapy alone does not cure prostate cancer.

My PSA has never gone lower than 2.4 or higher than 14. It was 14 five years ago before ADT started. After PCA had invaded my bladder. Had radiation PSA dropped to 2.4. Now have 1 enlarged lymph node and start radiation (PSA 3.28) on that lone node next week. All bone mets sre stable or have shrunk. Now on Zytega and prednisone for 2 years. Do not think I will ever get to 0.0

After rising slowly for 13 years post-RRP, my PSA jumped to 30 in 3/15 so Dr. Myers immediately put me on ADT3. FWIW here is my timeline:

3/4 PSA 30.5, T 473.4

3/9 Started bicalutimide

3/11 First 3-mo. Lupron shot

4/4 Started Dutasteride, PSA 3.3, T 20.8

5/3 PSA .469, T 4.5

5/18 Started SRT

6/3 PSA .151, T <3

6/16 2nd Lupron shot

7/1 PSA .058, T 4.6

7/15 Completed SRT

8/1 Both PSA and T undetectable

5/7/18 PSA still undetectable :-)

After going metastatic within a year of primary treatment, I had my first Lupron injection on May 8, 2004. My PSA was 32.3 and I had mets to L2 and T3 of my spine.

On July 5, 2004, I had my second injection with Eligard and started a six month chemotherapy-hormone therapy clinical trial. On January 8, 2005, another injection and PSA was 0.5. The six month of chemotherapy was over. The trial called for Lupron/Eligard plus starting Casodex, 50 mg daily. New scans showed that all mets were resolved.

On October 9, 2005, PSA rose to 1.9 and I stopped Casodex. As the half life of Casodex terminated, my PSA dropped. On May 15, 2006, my PSA was undetectable at <0.1. I have been undetectable ever since.

On February 11, 2010, at my Medical Oncologist suggestion, I stopped Lupron/Eligard.

On January 11, 2012, at my MO suggestion, I started a low dose of testosterone in an effort to bring back T with 4 mg of Androgel twice weekly. I had a blood draw yesterday and will report the updated results tomorrow.

Wow!!!! Great response to treatment! Do you go to research medical facility?

in reply to GolferDan

Academia in partnership with hospitals. When I started my Medical Oncologist was a Professor of Medicine and Researcher specializing in Genitourology. Prior to him I had two Radiation Oncologists. One had a private practice; the other was a Professor and Researcher at the same medical school and hospital as the MO.

in reply to

PSA at <0.1; T at 338.6.

After I started Lupron (Eligard - generic) in 2011 my PSA was 0.000 after one year. The highest was 72. I have had 72 radiations, 42 in 2007 and 30 in 2011. I had my last shot of Eligard 4/2018 and my PSA is 0.006 now and Testosterone is at 11. I see my doctor every 6 months now.

My husband starting at >677 18 months ago. Lupron still continuously, Docetaxel 6 rounds, then Zytiga plus Prednisone and PSA at 9.36 last test. PSA went up a bit when first starting Zytiga and Pred last spring but going down slowly and Mets in nymphs and bones have shown some shrinking.
