Half dose Xtandi still works for elderly

Husband John’s 10/25/18 PSA shows a full point drop to 5.64 since 9/5/18. His highest PSA ever was 22.

He has been on, off, on, reduced (Xtandi) since 2/3/18.

At 75, with his comorbidities, I am somewhat confident he won’t die from pCa especially with what’s in the pipeline.

Dose halved after a fall Labor Day weekend.

He does seem to be more anemic and I am always looking for suggestions. Luckily he enjoys eating liver but I can hardly tolerate cooking it.

I remember well walking into the house when I was a kid and being overwhelmed by the smell. All of us kids would say oh no! it's liver and onion night. Luckily we had a hungry dog under the table. He was a very fat dog.

Try Lamb Liver:

Heat the butter in a large frying pan. Add the onion, bacon lardons, garlic and thyme. ...

Season the flour with salt and black pepper and coat the liver.

Add the liver to the pan and brown for about 5 minutes. ...

Serve with parsnip mash and seasonal vegetable.

Bon Appétit

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

Hi Lynn, Well I asked the GP yesterday about the blood tests and he said John needs to quit alcohol completely. It affects the liver and could be causing the low blood results. Also a bad mix with Xtandi and dizziness, of course. Not what John wanted to hear as he enjoys his beer, wine and Fireball seasonally.

100 mg dose works for me. PSA still dropping. One beer or glass of wine OK'ed by my oncologist. Loss of balance still work in progress but improving.

How do you get to 100 mg when the capsules are 40 mg each?

2 pills one day 3 the next. Since Xtandi takes 28 days to reach equilibrium in your body it levels out at 100 mg per day... Dropped to 120 mg first, but still had trouble but was better than 160 mg dose. Adjusted lower and numbness, loss of balance, weakness all have been improving ever since. PSA still dropping. Last week at 0.119.

That's an interesting idea as the MO that is prescribing Xtandi wants him back on full dose. He doesn't think Xtandi has such symptoms. Thanks.

When xtandi is the only chryotoxic drug you are taking and reduced dosage ends worst side effects, what does he blame it on?? Cut to 90 mg and side effects again dropped. Went back to 100 mg and wife noticed difference soon. Also went back to falling 2-3 times a day as balance decreased. Read full disclosure sheet and you will see what can happen. Not just patient disclosure sheet, all eight pages of so. Many here are on only 80 mg. Whatever your body will handle without excessive toxicity.
