I'm scheduled for a PET/CT investigational PSMA study on Friday -- [68Ga]P16-093.
Interestingly, in contrast to the instructions that I was given and those reported by community members prior to my Axumin scan, I received no prep instructions for this despite asking. Have others receiving PSMA scans received prep instructions?
Of course, I'd like to do whatever I can to ensure the best possible result.
Thanks, Bill

I had a Ga 68 PSMA at UCSF in 2016 and I did not received any prep instructions. I remember having lunch before the study was done 2 hours later.
My second Ga 68 PSMA PET was done in Munich and they asked me not to eat anything 4 hours before the study. They usually give you a lot of fluids before the study. The study does not cause any discomfort. Good luck.
You you avoid exercise the day before. You should also not eat 4 hours before, limit liquids to water.
What you should do before the scan.
1. Be nice to your wife, if you have one. 2. Don’t watch any of these TV shows like Fox News or CNN. 3. Give money to the SPCA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. 4. Pray for great results. Hope, be strong, be brave!
Have PMSA on Friday also ...at UCSF. Only told to limit the water and food. Nothing 2 hours before.
Arrive at 1pm . Injected at 2 . Scan at 3. Done by 4:30.

Hope is here that something is found . Direction for chemo/HT target. Good luck on Friday!
My husband ate before. They did the first scan which is about 45 mins. Then they sent us away and told him to drink alot of water. Then the second scan took about 3 hours. They gave us the results straight away.
Hi Bill, I just had my PSMA scan and the only prep was to drink 4-5 glasses of water 2 hrs before procedure, I think this was to get one well hydrated to facilitate the spread of the radio-isotope in one’s body.
We just scheduled my dad at UCLA for the PSMA test and besides requiring a basic metabolic panel lab test within 6 weeks of the scheduled appointment, and of course to bring payment these are the instructions we received:
Please make note of the following instructions:
1. Do not eat 4 Hours prior to your appointment time. Water and your medication is ok.
2. Do not take Insulin prior to your appointment. This only applies to patients with diabetes.
3. Do not take Metformin on the date of your appointment and 2 more days after the appointment. This only applies if you are taking this medication
