Yes, I get them at least once a year, sometimes twice. Had one 6 months ago and having another in September. My MO is super cautious with use of a PARP inhibitor
PSMA PET requires good liver and kidney function for purging the residuals, hence the hydration requirement which as a side benefit makes canula insertion easier. It is then a matter of balancing hydration and exercise. I would not be concerned the day prior. And my annual PET is this month so been there, done that.😀
i’ve had multiple PSMA scans at UCLA in the last four years. Each time, Dr. Kushan’s staff has given me a list of dues and don’ts prior to PSMA scan and this includes no heavy exercise for 24 hours unsure of the reason though.
I have had MANY MANY scans including many PSMA scans. All have said no vigorous exercise on the day of the scan or the day before. Also once I crashed on a bike and that was a couple weeks before the scan but the scan picked up a positive in my back. As it turned out that was in a clinical trial of PSMA vs Choline. The Choline was the one picking up that inflammation caused by the crash, the PSMA did not pick it up.
Yes but instructions for some types of PET scan clearly advise against it. This one didn't, hence my post. And the reactions have been mixed. It's not the cancer, as I understand, but whether exercise can cause distortions in the scan results.
I see no reason at not to exercise. The ONLY recommendation for PSMA pet is to be well hydrated.
Have said that, my latest PSMA pet referral says “fast for 4 hours”. I KNOW that is not a requirement. So I’m guessing they just pasted the info they would use for a glucose based pet. Sometimes I think they don’t really carefully check the recommendation for a specific PET and just go with generic instructions.
