PSMA scan VS Axumin scan

My husband is scheduled for a PSMA scan September 28th to determine eligibility for Pluvicto. His oncologist told us that an Axumin scan would do the same thing. My understanding is only a PSMA scan would tell if he is expressing PSMA. Please advise.

Yes. Not a good feeling having an oncologist disagree with something that you are 99.9% sure of.

I guess the closest major cancer center that has good urologic oncologists would be the UC Davis Cancer Center in Sacramento.

Thanks TA, that’s my understanding as well and where he will get Pluvicto if he is PSMA positive.

My personal experience with the Axumin pet was 2 false positives. 1. lymph nodes was disproven with a 3T MRI and the second was a rib that was treated with proton and now has occastional pain from scar tissue. I had to wait for the PSMA to find out it was in my vertibre.
