Prostate Cancer

Just found this forum and I was relieved to see others talking about PC because my Father was diagnosed in 1999, had radical Prostate surgery and they discovered he had bladder cancer as well. Ended up with bladder issues after surgery. Long story short. His PSA level went up to 86.0 in 2016 and it was suggested that he go through 6 weeks of localized radiation which he did but was quite hesitate to do it. Unfortunately, this brought on more issues and he ended up with Radiation Cystitis. He started Lupron shots in September 2017 and his PSA immediately went down. His PSA started to increase again June of 2018 and he recently started taking Xtandi. My father will not do Chemo (he is 77) which I will respect his decision. He just had another PSA test and after being on the Xtandi for a month, the PSA is continuing to increase. He is scheduled to have another bone density and CT scan in the next week. Just looking for conversation/ideas on other medications to look into.

Too bad he is set against docetaxel - it's a great drug. Too many men avoid it because of what they have seen of chemo in OTHER cancers. In some men, it even restores sensitivity to Zytiga/Xtandi.

Stay on the xtandi. Many patients go through was is called a PSA bounce. if the xtandi is effective the dying cancer cells can cause a rise in PSA.
