It is good that you plan to speak to your doc about your depression and that you acknowledge it. My man wouldn’t.

I am more familiar with Xtandi side effects but when I searched here there were previous posts about depression with Zytiga. You may want to search those two words and read what others have done to alleviate depression.

HELLO, THANKS FOR RESPONSE.. MY DEPRESSION COMES FROM MY BODY DETERIORATING AS NOT ABLE TO GO TO GYM AND HAVE DECENT TOTAL BODY WORKOUTS MY BODY IS USED TO.. ZYTIGA HAS CAUSED SO MUCH FATIGUE AM NOT ABLE TO WORKOUT. MY DOCTORS KNOW THIS AS I TELL THEM EVERY VISIT.. AM STARTING TO FEEL BETTER WITH ONLY A FEW DAYS OF LOADING WITH CREATINE.. AM HOPING THIS WILL WORK..

mjfbach hello, I AM ON ZYTIGA AND PREDNISONE, I MAILED MY DOC ON SUNDAY ABOUT SUICIDAL THOUGHTS, MONDAY SHE TRIED TO CALL ME BUT MY PHONE WAS TURNED DOWN, SO SHE HAD POLICE CHECK UP ON ME.. I GOT TO HOSPITAL AND SHE WAS FURIOUS.. ANYWAY MY RED FLAG IS UP AND GOT PRESCRIBED ZOLOFF ANTI-DEPRESSION TABS.. SIMPLY EXERCISE WOULD DO IT FOR ME. I WORKED OUT FOR MANY YEARS AT GOLD GYM 2-3 TIMES A WEEK.. MY BODY NEEDS THE INTENSITY PLACED UPON THE MUSCLES.. HAVE BEEN WITH BONE CANCER FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS, STARTED WITH CASODEX BUT DOC SWITCHED ME TO ZYTIGA AND PREDNISONE.. NOT BEING ABLE TO HAVE DECENT GYM WORKOUTS IS THE BIGGEST CAUSE FOR BEGINNING DEPRESSION.

THANKS. HAVE STARTED LOADING WITH CREATINE THIS WEEK AND HOPE THAT WILL INCREASE ENERGY LEVEL.. ANY ENERGY INCREASING TIPS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Good to hear you started anti depressant. Watch out for constipation. As your body allows more exercise you can tapor off Zoloft but at least you waved the red flag and got help early.

You Could search depression and Zytiga above to get more ideas as depression frequently mentioned. This website is a treasure of information.

Please keep us informed.

As hard as it is the one constant on this site is that exercise is the answer. I’m on Lupron and Zytega and I lift weights hard for an hour plus 3 days a week. Each time I go I swear it will be my last but I come back and darn do I feel pretty good. Try and force yourself my friend. Good for your energy , health and depression

In addition to possibly using an antidepressant, your medical team should help you get the physical pain managed. There are several drug options that are not too disruptive. I hope they can get you balanced out quickly.

Talk with your onc about reducing the dose of Zytiga. Xtandi wiped me out so we eventually cut the dose in half. I can tolerate the med much better and it seems to be keeping psa low.

Hi Leapord77,

You should definitely talk to your doctor. You didn’t mention if you were on Lupron or similar androgen suppressant. That is what really causes fatigue. In an article that I recently read, Zytiga actually reduces the fatigue effect. Please read news.cancerconnect.com/zyti...

And onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...

But most importantly talk to your doctor. Stay positive, be strong.

Casodex. Talk to your Onc.

HI Leapord,

I am on LUPRON and ZYTIGA at the same time, I am 55, with Stage IV, in lymph and bones (in fact, too many bones to name) and while my fatigue is not quite at the same level as yours, I am tired, my giant leg muscles turned to fat, my memory is shot and other side effects etc...When i look in the mirror, I am not liking what I see...When you have no testosterone, the side effects you and I are experiencing, is not particularly surprising. HOWEVER, very important for you to do TWO things, if i may suggest:

1) Immediately speak with your physician (s) whether that is your Urologist, Oncologist or General Practitioner about the potential depression, and let's get that addressed.

2) I don't like the idea of using supplements for energy under the circumstances of metastatic cancer and Zytiga, because the outcomes cannot be predicted, what I do is when i am tired, i do not fight it, for about 24 hours, maybe 36 hours, i will let it take me where it wants to go, and then at some point, i get up and start a workout on my Ski machine (it's called a Skierg)..maybe 45 seconds to start, then maybe throw a load of laundry on, and then i do a few minutes on the machine, pay a few bills, then I find once i get in that groove my energy starts to pick up a touch, and i will do a 3-5 minute set on the machine, and go from there. One reason i DO MY WORKOUTS IN MY HOME is because i know i would not feel like driving to the gym..so after a day of huge "zytiga fatigue" i get up the next day and my mentality is "okay, i cant do a 35 minute workout, but i sure as heck am going to do 2 minutes, and take it from there"...the exercise, oddly enough, seems to help with the fatigue

anytime i failed to workout for 4-5 days, my fatigue actually got worse lol...strange, but true...So i do little 2-3 minute sets on the machine, with alot of breaks, and i will do that all day long...today i ski 5 miles (about 8,000 meters) and my first "set" was a mere 200 meters and it felt like i was going to die...but my body responded, as the day wore on, and as i type this, i dont feel tired at all.

I deliberately do NOT do high impact exercise since both the cancer and the lack of testosterone weaken the bones, so low impact only.

I walk my dog several times a day and it clears my mind of the ailments not to mention helps my dog too. I'm on Zytiga and Eligard which is a six month Lupron shot and happy to say tolerating it pretty well. Talk to your MO mine lowered my dosage because of liver count and it worked maybe that will have the same effect on you. Stay positive my friend. Leo

Be careful with gensing. A lot of folks have allergic reactions to it - me, for one. It has good qualities, but not for those of us who have allergic reactions to it. My eyes swell my face gets a little puffy.

Hope you are seeing an Oncologist and not just a doc. They can adjust meds to combat your feeling of malaise. Everybody reacts differently to cancer meds and an Oncologist is best suited to adjust and look at options. There are many options and a different one may work better for you. A positive attitude is the strongest defense against this bugger, and at 69 after 10 years, I am fighting this for another 20!

Just get up and do it. How bad do you want it? Feel mentally off balance? Most any type of doctor will write a script for Valium. I take it and and it calms me down. Now get up and dance.

Can’t speak to the depression ,but if it’s just fatigue ask your doctor if low dose Ritalin is an option. Taking .025 mg twice a day. I’m tired at 7 pm or so but that’s fine with me. My psa is 0.0. It’s the drugs doing it. Hope this helps.

CBD!

FWIW, I have been on Zytiga for 18 months and haven't noticed too much weakness and for sure no depression. It must vary from patient to patient in side affects.
