just diagnosed in March. he was on finesteride and doc didn't know to double psa. if caught in time could have been cured.

Doubling does not matter. What matters is if his PSA increased while he was taking it, or if it never decreased by very much. Finasteride gets rid of the PSA due to BPH but not the PSA due to PC, so PSA becomes a better indicator of progression.

Gleason 9 can often be cured. It is only if it has metastasized that it can't be cured.
