PSA rollercoaster

I was diagnosed 5 years ago Gleason 9. Had cryotherapy, 42 sessions of radiation 6 shots of Radium223 for Mets in pelvisand I am currently on Zytiga, Lupron, and Xgeva. At no time has my PSA gone below 3. Recently it jumped to 6 and my oncologist started talking about radiation. Yesterday it was back to 4 so we are staying the course. At no time have I experienced any pain from the disease, only occasional fatigue and hot flashes. I read that some are concerned when PSA rises from 0.5 to 0.8. Don’t know if I am an aberration or are there others with similar experience.

Did you have radical prostatectomy?

No. The cryotherapy was supposed to kill the prostate.

Good Thursday Morning George79,

May I suggest you get an Axumin PET/CT scan to see what is going on and also a Guardant360 liquid biopsy to check for genetic mutations.

Your PSA is too high considering your current treatments.

Please see my bio for complete treatment history.

Mark, Atlanta

You seem to have had every treatment available and manyI’ve never heard of. I’ll discuss your suggestion with my oncologist next appointment. Thanks for responding.

Hello George

I had Cryotherapy 15 years ago. Someone asked if I could offer any advice but Cryo is the only treatment I had other than 13 months of testosterone lowering before the cryo. My PSA was 3.8 when diagnosed- Gleason 8- but after Cryo my PSA was never above 0.01- the cancer never made it outside the prostate- I was lucky. I read posts here from time to time but I'm really not familiar with most of the current drugs. Some people even seem to be taking Metformin which used to be limited to treating Diabetes. I picked cryo because it's the only treatment that is repeatable as long as the cancer remains within the prostate. I'm sorry I can't help but there are people on this site who are very knowledgeable about current drugs and treatment. Sometimes prostate cancer seems to be like a snowflake- no two alike. I wish you luck George.

Research all the options and be wary of people who seem to be salesmen.

I'd add to what's been said already that you need to get your genetic profiling done. There are existing gene targeted therapies, and a large number of others in various stages of clinical trials.
