My husband is having a consultation for " spot" Radiation of the ribs. Does anyone have details about what this will entail? Thanks

Spot Radiation
I had spot radiation using SBRT to a lesion on femur. It's focused high dose IMRT which means it can be completed in just a few sessions, in my case three. I would think that's what hubby will be doing. Painless, no side effects.

Hi
I am from the UK so the treatment may be different, but I had SABR (stereotactic ablation radiotheraphy) treatment to a Met in my 4th left rib consisting of 3x10gy to ablate the Met with no problems and it was successful. One thing to note is that the rib can be susceptible to breakage after several months and the nerve that runs in the channel behind the rib may cause discomfort until it heals. I also had this treatment to two spots in my pelvis which was also successful.

I have had palliative external beam radiation to T7-T11 vertebrae, my left femur and my 10th rib. I got almost immediate pain relief in each instance. Very few side effects, maybe a little additional fatigue and in one instance minor radiation burn to the skin on my back. Managed well with an ointment provided by my radiation oncologist.
Thanks all
I had radiation for a tumor on my spine and rib. The first thing they did was to "measure" me and tattoo two small dots on my chest. Then I went for 10 days of radiation. Each session was about 15 minutes. Didn't hurt at all. Interesting thing was my PSA was going up from .5 to 9 before the radiation. In the 2 months since the treatment it dropped to 1.25.
I believe this is what my doctors called salvage radiation. I already had radiation to the prostate. But last year a single lesion appeared in my pelvic bone. I had developed a limp and the area was painful. I had 10 doses of radiation to the area. The pain disappeared as did the limp. The lesion stabilized.
I'm currently going through 10 rounds of radiation to a left femur lesion. I've had 8 of the ten, with some fatigue (I can't stay awake past about 9pm) but no issues other than that. I had minimal bone pain, but the Radiation Onc. recommended it to stop the bone getting 'eaten away' by the cancer at that site. There is a risk of secondary cancer at the site in the future, but they said it's a small risk.
