Looks promising...from what I have read 400mg of capsaicin and 20mg of lycopene should be effective.

Gus,

The only capsaicin brand & heat unit I use is:

swansonvitamins.com/natures...

"400 mg" is less important than the HU. It doesn't affect my innards.

Patrick,

have you noticed any results and what dose do you take per day

Gus,

I take one cap / day.

Basically, I take a variety of things, none of which have cured me (nor did I anticipate a cure.) But I'm still here almost 13 years after RP failure, so I continue with them.

Vitacost's regular price is less, $6.29. Right now, it's on sale for $5.66.

I have started using Habanero hot sauce in a small burrito at lunch- about 1-2 tsps of it (also drinking tomato juice). I find eating that much hot sauce leads to a very lively lunch.

Craig

I love very spicy food--Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican, etc.--& eat it at least once a day, usually twice. Yes, it makes for very lively meals! Now I'm going to throw 1 of Patrick's Cayenne Extra Hot capsules down the hatch (into the cauldron?) too. It won't make my meals any more lively, but I hope it will team up with my 25 mg lycopene & kick some PCa ass.

Lycopene is one of my "big 5" daily supplements. something is working for me.

gusgold profile image
gusgold in reply to

Name,

can you list your 5 supplements and describe the results you achieved

Gus

in reply togusgold

My "big 5" supplements are:

1. turmeric/curcumin - 500 Mg it also contains black pepper concentrate.

2. Pomegranate extract - 250 Mg

3. Berberine - 500 Mg

4. Grape seed extract - 400 Mg

5. Green Tea extract 725 Mg

On a rare day that I don't eat broccoli, I will take broccoli extract, 500

Mg. If I miss out on tomato product or watermelon I will take a lycopene tablet, 25 Mg.

I'm 100% vegan, no sugar of any type including artificial sweeteners. Also on my "no " list is vegetable oils. I drink 2 ounces of pomegranate and red grape juice every day. I also eat red/black grapes daily, along with broccoli and other vegetables. Everything fresh and organic, much of it home grown. My first meal is oatmeal, soy protein concentrate, and ground flax seed topped with blueberries.

I also run 3,4 times weekly, 4,5 miles per run. If i don't run, I walk at least 45 minutes. I also lift weights 3 times a week.

To answer your question, does all this have any positive effect? I have no idea. I do know that it isn't doing anything negative. My primary care doctor is amazed at my cholesterol numbers, the best he has ever seen. My cancer team is also amazed. I started two years ago with a psa at 850, body full of cancerous lymph nodes, and 4 mets on hip and spine. My psa has dropped to 0.07 and they can't seem to find any cancer although I know it's lurking somewhere.

When my cancer rears it's ugly head, I will simply fight harder, I'm an ex Army Ranger (Vietnam) and i will not allow anything to dictate when I check out. I will die when it's my turn, not when cancer thinks it has me down and out. I'm only 66 and plan on at least 10 more years of excellent health.

Hope this helps in some shape and form.

Name,

Are you saying you dropped your PSA from 850 to .07 with just supplements and exercise...or did you have medical treatment and ADT.

As described above, They started me out out on 50 Mg of casodex which I continue to take. 2 weeks later they injected me with 23.5 Mg of Lupron which I continue to receive every 3 months. 2 weeks after my first Lupron inject, I took six courses of Docetaxel.

So, i'm currently on a daily 50 MG dose of casodex and every 90 days they pump 23.5 Mg of lupron in me.

I think it is 22.5Mgs of Lupron The key to beating cancer is exactly what you are doing! Exercise diet and of course a very positive attitude! I wish you very long life and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR GREAT COUNTRY! I was also on 22.5 Mgs of Lupron ever 3 months and do not have any problems. Now I am on 22.5 Mgs of Eligard and I have so much energy that I have to walk 2 times a day now! I walk for 2 hours steady and feel great! And i am a 11 and a half year Prostate Cancer Survivor!

Anyone have a recommended lycopine supplement? Thank you, Brian

in reply toBrianF505

I use 21st century brand, 25 Mg. found on Amazon. I only use it if I don't consume tomato product or watermelon daily.

Neal-Snyder profile image
Neal-Snyder in reply toBrianF505

I take the same, 21st Century 25 mg. I buy it on iHerb.com, 60 for $9.34. I'm not a scientist, but I like the # of mg's & the price. I take it even when I consume a tomato product or watermelon, but 9999 may be right that it's overkill.

You’re better off with a food form if you can. Lycopene is abundant in tomato’s purée and a lot in watermelon, tomatoes and papaya.

I follow your posts closely, I'm very much interested in foods/supplements that combine to form a synergy.

Effect of capsaicin on prostate cancer cells.

Abstract:

In recent years, natural products have emerged as modulators of many cellular responses, with potential applications as therapeutic drugs in many disorders. Among them, capsaicin, the pungent agent in chili peppers, has been demonstrated to have a role as a tumor suppressor for prostate cancer. Capsaicin potently suppresses the growth of human prostate carcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo. The antiproliferative activity of capsaicin correlates with oxidative stress induction and apoptosis. Capsaicin also induces ceramide accumulation and endoplasmic reticulum stress in androgen-resistant prostate cells. In androgen-sensitive prostate cancer cells, capsaicin exerts a biphasic effect, promoting growth at low doses and inducing apoptosis at doses over 200 µM. This article will draw upon multiple lines of evidence to provide a comprehensive description on the current state of knowledge that implicates the effect of capsaicin on prostate cancer cells.

Hallo Gusgold, I fight tubular prostate cancer. Like most pc patients I read a lot.

I received ADT 3 months Lucrin injections. But I also throw a lot of other stuff down my throat.

I don't know how much the capsaicin helps, but for the past few months I dedicated myself on 1500 mg capsaicin every morning and evening which I gulped down with two spoons of tomato paste. This last month I throw half a teaspoon of tumeric in the glas with the tomato paste. I also drink a flaxseed oil capsule every morning and evening. There is quite a few university studies on the capsaicin/lycopene subject and it looks the rightway to go.

Are you doing this as a complimentary thing alongside allopathic treatment? If so, how are u doing now?

Thinus profile image
Thinus in reply toKevinski65

Hallo Kevin

Yes, still received Lucrin injections and a calsium drip on 25 April 2018. I already discussed the situation with my oncologist and he already gave me the green light to stop Lucrin on 25 July. If the PSA starts climbing back over 0.5, it will be obviously of testosterone. And we will go back to Lucrin. But I want a 90 day holiday of Lucrin and just want to risk it for 90 days just with herbs.

Husband tried ghost pepper supplement for 9 months and it did no good as his disease progressed.

He has always loved eating tomatoes and spicy foods like Thai, Laotian, Vietnamese, Mexican, Jerk, etc., most of his life but there appears to be no benefit for him.

Gusgold,

Thanks for the link to the paper, very interesting. I want to read it more carefully, at first glance it seemed to show an additive rather than multiplicative benefit typical of synergy.

Whether synergistic or additive , if the pepper caps don't bother you, they are unlikely to hurt, so the downside risk is probably very small. The paper demonstrates a potential significant upside, although the authors admit not being able to tie the levels of capsaicin used in the lab tests to achievable serum levels of capsaicin in humans.

FYI, while there is research suggesting as little as 7-8 mg/day lycopene is sufficient, the majority of studies reported in the literature use 15, 30, or 75 mg of lycopene to study its effect on prostate cancer and other diseases.

I use brands containing Lycomato, which is lycopene extracted from tomatoes, as that is the kind I see most often used in studies. Several papers showed that the body absorbs only 10 mg or so at a time, with any excess excreted, so I take a 15 mg Lycomato capsule morning and evening. I eat lots of organic tomatoes in season, but the season is short!

I’m a big fan of taking food form over supplements. If you can stand it, spice it up with Habaneros. They’re cheap and incredibly powerful. I’d recommend gloves when cutting them up. Trust me. This is from experience that you wouldn’t want in a million years! If you get this stuff over your hands - DO NOT take a shower until you have used a detergent to remove it. Someone like dishwasher liquid. 😱
