Is it beneficial to eat or drink Lycopene, as example: in pasta sauce or tomato juice; or should you take Lycopene in tablet form, 10, 20, 30 or 45mg. per day? Or should you take both forms: food and tablets. In otherwords, should you take Lycopene, or is it a waste of effort, time, and money.

I would say that it is possible to achieve & maintain maximal levels of circulating lycopene via diet, but you need perhaps to commit to Italian red sauce several times weekly.
I think that 10 mg Lyc-O-Mato might be sufficient for maintenance. I would not go beyond 20 mg, unless I was starting way below my plateau level.
Note that the cis form seems to be the active form, which is what you get in heat-treated products (but not uncooked tomato).
Also, as with all carotenes, there must be fat present for absorption.
There are now 439 PubMed refs to <prostate lycopene>. It's become a complicated area of research. My feeling is that there is probable benefit, & no good reason to ignore lycopene.
People vary in how they get to their plateau, and also to the level attained. Therefore, studies that use intake amounts, rather than blood tests, are sometimes going to report messed-up figures.
"Prediagnosis dietary data, collected at baseline, were available for 8,898 men, of whom 526 died of prostate cancer through 2012."
"Among men with high-risk cancers (T3-T4 or Gleason score 8-10, or nodal involvement), consistently reporting lycopene intake ≥ median on both postdiagnosis surveys was associated with lower {prostate-cancer specific mortality} (HR = 0.41 ..., based on ten {prostate-cancer specific mortality} cases consistently ≥ median intake) compared to consistently reporting intake < median."
Thank you Patrick. I am trying to reduce the size of 2 pelvic lymph node tumors with 150mg Casodex and 30mg of Lycopene, before I seek IMRT or proton radiation or robotic surgery. I am trying to decide upon what treatment I should pursue. What are your thoughts on the matter?
Thank you Patrick, the information was invaluable to me. I thought the company when they included soybean oil with the lycopene that it ws for bioavailability.
I drink two juice glasses a day of low sodium V-8. I don't know the lycopene content of it, but would think it is significant. I always prefer food to supplements whenever possible.
Good to that you believe in natural stuff.many do not.Im on many and it's not cheap.cayenne cap with every meal very cheap..Tumeric #1. Good health to you.
I dont think it has any correlation to fighting Prostate Cancer because I always had a lot of tomatoes all my life and I still got Advanced Prostate Cancer!!
I'm told it's not possible to eat enough tomatoes for lycopene to have affect..maybe if you ate a lot of organic tomatoe paste concentrate...?I too ate lots of tomatoes..Good for us all in any form .Take care!
I dont believe in natural remedies for Prostate Cancer! Let me tell you what a friend told me over 12 years ago when I was diagnosed with Advanced Prostate Cancer! He told me I go to Africa and get bark off a tree there mix it with cork water and vinager and drink it 3 times a day! RIDICULOUS! The same friend has not been to a Doctor in about 23 years! He does not believe in Doctors! He does not even have a Family Doctor! He doesnt even go to the Dentist! He says your teeth will heal them self! This friend is a very foolish person!! And he is now 67 years old!
no point in doing anything that you don't believe in...
Correct- no magic bullet..but if you want to do good for yourself it's commonly thought to benefit p.c...All these things are only used by people that believe that nutrition is something you can do that can't harm you and is good for you.. Instead of doing nothing...
Great to eat as many forms of tomatoe as possible.only cooked is best .20 mg. Twice daily w/ food is what my naturalpathic onocologist recommends. Been on that and many more since the onset 2yrsBack..Presntly no -visible signs...so doing everything to keep it away....good luck!
Did not know that. It's great because I'm taking both $ both are inexpensive.no brainer. Thanks
Yes Rich take a good lycopene supplement as part of your regimen. No downside. But go get evaluated for knocking out those identified nodes by means of stereotactic body radiation (SBRT). It may be a one time opportunity if they are targetable.
