Hi

Sounds like you are both going through very human feelings, but are arriving at different understanding about the value and outcomes of treatment. Your partner is welcome to email us directly at info@malecare.org and we'll hook him with someone to talk with. MEANWHILE, please post his numbers pas Gleason age etc here and the treatments suggested for him

Also, have him join our new group here

My partner is 57yrs old he has gleason score of 7 but because the right side of his prostate has 70% cancer, his left side has 5%, the consultants have recommended removal of the prostate.

Hi Sarahmj!

I noticed this post was 3 months ago and pray your partner chose to do treatment.

My cancer had spread and was stage 3 because I walked out on the urologist at the age of 47.

Then at the age of 53, the doctor found a tumor and a biopsy showed Gleason score of 7 to 9 in 14 samples.

I was debating about living aprox 7 to 10 years with sex, but as my doctor told me, once it gets to stage 4, I'll have so many other problems, sex won't be on my mind or even be strong enough to do it.

I had radiation and Lupron. My PSA went to 0 and testosterone 9....

We have a survivorship group and is run by a certified sex therapist. She said testosterone is the gas, oil, battery, tires, basically everything to a car as testosterone is to men...

Now a year after treatment, she told me that a man can have an orgasm with a completely flaccid penis. And, she was right! I didn't believe it until I tried it. Now. A few months later, I was able to get "firm"...then hard. Tho not the same "size" I was, it is coming back.

It doesn't last a long time, but allows some activity and an orgasm can be achieved, tho nothing comes out.

With practice, and I try every day, it will come back. I don't always have success, but it can come back.

I have family and a great wife that stands by me, tho I was worried she might give up, but she is here!

We do more things we enjoy like camping and fishing. Things that make us too tired for sex. So if we don't, it's not a big deal.

Best wishes to you!

That should be the least of his worries

Could you share more information on his data? Is it advanced? You can tell him that even with surgery most men regain use of Mr. Happy. You can also tell him that there is one wonderful side effect of treatment, time. Time to be with the one you love, time to injoy the outdoors, reading the Sunday paper. Not having treatment also has side effects, loss of quality of life, loss of being without pain, loss of independents.

Least invasive treatment with Intent to cure is HIFU. A two hour procedure after which the patient wears a catheter for several days so a not to interrupt flow. An outpatient procedure that is nerve sparing and does not interfere with ones sexual ability. For more information go to Keck School of Medicine at USC on the West Coast and ask for Dr. Gill. They will refer you to a specialist in your area if you are out of their service area.
