Welcome to the forum 1cupcake !

It's possible that you might respond better on Adderall. The reason that there are so many different ADHD medications at so many different dosages is because different people respond to some better than others.

Concerta contains methylphenidate, similarly to Ritalin. Adderall is an amphetamine based medication.

These are all stimulant medications, which act by stimulating the release of dopamine (particularly in the prefrontal cortex). But some people respond better to one or the other.

Then, there's people like me who respond better on a non-stimulant.

I just started in October.. I am trying to be ok with it. It doesn’t seem to affect me badly.. I just worry long term..

I feel ok on it and feel a little calmer.. I guess - more focused yet so much is going on that I have been so burnt out.. 😭

At least my psychiatrist wants me off all the SNRI that my GP harmed me for years with as well as a Benzo.. 😭 besides medical blood testing where he omitted some very vital blood work on my thyroid.

I hope it helps you and if not that your psychiatrist will find another to help you. 🙏

feel free to try another med. I would also talk with your doctor about getting a genesight test. It takes your genetics and matches it with all of the mental health meds, and will tell you the extremity of adverse effects for each med with your specific genetics.

How early do you take your meds?

I remember Jessica McCabe, from the HowToADHD YouTube channel mentioning that she takes her meds before she gets out of bed.

I think many people will take stimulant meds 20 minutes to an hour before they get up for the day. (Extended release meds like Concerta might take longer to kick in.)

You might need a higher dosage. You might indeed need to try Adderall.

I used to take Adderall XR (extended release), but it wasn't right for me. I now take generic Strattera (atomoxetine), which works twice as well to treat my Inattentive traits as Adderall did... but it still doesn't help me to be motivated.

• Sadly, the main thing that makes me feel motivated is the same Fight-or-Flight adrenaline surge that can cause me much anxiety. (Sometimes excitement alone does it, or intense interest in something novel, but that's too infrequent for me.)

hi,

I take my meds around 10 or 11 AM..

also have to wait as I have to take my thyroid earlier and without other medication.

Then about an hour or even half hour I will, take my B12 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with her that my psychiatrist is lowering because my GP over my psychiatrist wants to get me off of the medication. We are also thinking of trying it can be approved to try Ketamine therapy and rTSM (I think it’s called.. sorry just got up and still 😴😴).

I don’t know if I can do a higher dose than the 54 I do take.. b/c of bodily issues I experience with my fibromyalgia and my thyroid still being funky.. even if my recent blood test so differently…

I am also very hesitant with Adderal.. I was hesitant to even get on Concerta..but I figure I would try.. so far, ok..

Thank you for sharing your insight as well as your experiences. And yes, motivation can be hard.. especially when you have so much to juggle. I hope you have a good loving support system in your life. I don’t 😞 Meaning my abusive family and very limited fiends I have now allowed or keep close on my life..

I can understand what you mean.. it’s not easy at all..

Thank you through for your reply, it very much appreciated.

✨🙏💫
