ADHD & STEM
Great article. Thanks for sharing!
Since I work in Tech, and I've met a lot of people with ADHD &/or other neurodiversities who also work in tech fields. (Some I've known in person, others only online.)
I've actually been playing with the idea of starting a forum for Neurodiversity people in Tech (probably on Discord; definitely not Reddit). But this article makes me rethink the scope, and broaden to STEM.
After all, despite my career being in tech, overall I'm more widely interested in STEM. (As evidenced by my username! 😆)
haha that would be a large forum
Good point. Maybe I ought to keep to the tech field. My inspiration was for fellow ADHD Brains to encourage one another, share strategies, and maybe so some older tech workers like me can mentor younger ones. (I know that the mentoring I got from my first IT manager was super helpful for me, when I started in my career.)
Hi rootcausesearcher
I know several physicians who have very strong ADHD, as well as many other talented people in different disciplines who are twice exceptional - they have great intelligence or other assets but also were burdened with ADHD. All in line with the article you cited.
Sadly, those who are highly intelligent can also mask their symptoms well enough to avoid or delay diagnosis for a long time. People with ADHD are told all their life that they are lazy or stupid or not likeable. They may not fit in socially. If the person accepts those explanations as true, it hides the true cause, the brain neurochemistry issues, and drives them to mask their inner self from others because they accept the blame.
