hi everyone. I was diagnosed late (46) and have been on dex for around 6 months which has been a game changer. For the first time ever post meds I was able to realise I was sugar and carb loading to unconsciously self medicate my hyperactivity and with the improvement in my executive function was able to really change my diet and exercise (with the result I have now lost 16 kilos in a healthy way eating properly ). I truly believe one of the reasons I have remained overweight for large portions of my life was to assist in managing my energy-….hyperactivity as it feels like when I am fitter and thinner it becomes almost unbearable.
I have noticed that the medication (I used to be fine on 2 tablets a day ) isn’t holding the hyperactivity the way it was when I was heavier now. Do other people experience what feels like an increase in hyperactivity with an increase in fitness and or have had to adjust their meds accordingly?

You bring up an interesting point of view! Because I can relate.. and to solve this… my doc introduced: guanfacine, to help with restlessness and hyperactivity.
This really helped, but there’s a downside… I’ve gained 10kg, the past year… basically what I’ve lost on dex itself. I’m also taking Vyvanse with the Intuniv, but this doesn’t decrease my appetite… Intuniv and weight gain are known side-effects, things I was scared of… worked really hard to lose weight, before I got diagnosed… But regaining weight at this moment… I know it’s partially the medication, and the effect it causes…slowing me down, physically and mentally, so I kind of accepted it….
