ADHD Diagnosis

I think folks can be more secure in the diagnosis of ADD, especially if they take the battery of executive function tests that include the Stroop Test, which addresses effects of distraction. Doc said my short term memory was great, when I was focusing and not being distracted. If you Google EPI Products and read up on their microcurrent stimulator, it was approved by the FDA for treatment of anxiety, insomnia and ADD. Works well to decrease my anxiety.

Perhaps. But I see no reason to be insecure in my diagnosis.

Rigorous objective testing might come in handy as a comeback when people say things like "everyone's forgetful sometimes", or "you don't seem hyperactive", or "just get a diary". But I'd rather see neurodivergent people empowered with the confidence that they know what's happening in their own minds.

agreed- making people go thru poking n prodding, n paying for extensive tests is needless. if ya really wanna know if someone is neurodivergent- just talk to us! lol

also, on a funny but sad note- in todays society, saying something is approved by the FDA so therefore its good, is comparable to saying i saw it on TikTok so its true😂😂

I have not the slightest insecurity about my diagnosis. A lifetime of struggling with getting organized, getting to places on time, keeping living space neat (even minimally neat), taking care of errands, mood swings, random brain fog ... job problems, filling-out-form problems, lateness problems ... being constantly overwhelmed ...

No insecurity about the diagnosis at all. BTW: treatment has allowed me make progress on all these issues.

Same. I was diagnosed at age 44. Started on meds immediately. It was like I woke up out of a sound sleep for the first time in my life. Now I'm back to where I was all those decades ago. Cannot get my script filled due to Ritalin shortages. But I see people here talking about being on Ritalin recently. So why am I having a problem getting my medication? I just keep being told they are backordered and there is a national shortage. I just want my life back.

try Adderall XR! Also Wellbutrin - it is an Antidepressant with off label use for ADHD . I loved this med the best but developed an allergy for it so can't use any more . Complimentryt and alternative medications also work. I am a Niurse Practitioner with extensive experience and education in Cannabis Medicine and use a tincture high in CBD * 8 Parts CBD to 1 Part thc/ per ml use 0.5 ml two to three times a day and it does help me focus . I cannot use stimulant medications because I have a Cardiac Rhythm disorder and my Cardiologist has said NO NO to them. Non Stimulants do not help me !

I fond ritalin the least helpful next to the non stimulants - Also consider Concerta

Thanks for your suggestion. Since my last post, I have been able to get Ritalin. I did talk to my previous pcp a few years ago about letting me try adderall. She wouldn't prescribe it for me. I have since moved out of state and will be talking to my new doctor about it.

So sorry to hear about you not being able to get your Ritalin. That drug really revolutionized my life. Apparently worker shortages is a big problem. Not only are restaurants struggling to fill jobs, but apparently some drug manufacturers as well. Amazing!
