Adderal svt, pvcs

I am new to this group and just have a question. So my dr started me on 5mg of Adderall yesterday which I have not started yet bc I’m a little scared actually I have prior existing svt and have had to ablations for the past year and a half my heart has been doing great other than pvcs here and there when I have a lot of caffeine. The dr first put me on Klonipin 0.5 mg bid as I suffer from panic attacks as well as depression. He told me to take half the 5mg adderal to see how I did with it. I have never used a stimulant before other than steroids that I absolutely hate and know they work completely different. I’m kinda at a stand point here giving I have tried almost every medication on the market for depression anxiety mood stabilizers and it’s not helped my adhd parents would never let the dr give me a stimulant growing up and I’m now 36 years old and I am constantly all over the place I cannnot focus I’ve been through several jobs just this year I will go and go until I wear myself out sleep a few hours and repeat. I really want to try this medicine any advice on how strong 2.5 mg would do to me and how it may affect my heart?

Hey Vanschoyck113~

Welcome to the group!

Since the doctor that wrote this Rx for you has all of your medical history, I would imagine that they would (hopefully) not provide you with something that would harm you? One of the first things a doctors hypocratic oath says is "do no harm".. So, sounds like they want to help you out.

I'm taking focalin xR which is a stimulant as well. For non ADHD people it is basically speed and would make them go haywire. For me, it helps slow my brain down, so that I can actually think and have more clarity of thought. I do understand your reluctance to take a stimulant, but it should have a calming effect on you. Try it for a trial period of 1 month, and see if there's a difference to you in your mood and cognitive thinking. If you take it as a "trial" and use a journal, you'll see if it's worthwhile to you to continue or not.

BTW, I do also recommend taking your vitamins, including B12, and the B complexes. Make sure to do some daily meditation and work out 30 min a day. These are all "natural" things that help us ADHD folks.

Good luck to you, and hope these thoughts help you out!

Best regards~

GatsbyCat- thank you for the reply. I always knew something was off my whole life and after pretty much trying everything nothing ever seemed to help they just diagnosed me with adhd and started me on a low dose adderal 5mg split In half bid and the dr also gave me Klonipin 0.5 bid bc I have bad anxiety too I’ve been scared to take them in combination since one is a upper and one is a downer. Tonight will probably be the first night I take it after starting the adderal due to my anxiety has been ramping up. The adderal has helped keep me calmer and makes me sleepy sometimes but I also have a thyroid dis order that is out of wack now so the heart palpitations almost made me stop the adderal my cardiologist put me back on half 25 mg atenolol it seems to keep the heart in control. I think my thyroid dose is too high I have under active thyroid and last blood work I had been off it a week and she still increased my dose quit a bit so gonna cut those in half and get my blood retook. Do you have any side effects with your adhd meds?

Maybe you could see a cardiologist who could do some tests on you as you take the adderal to see how your heart behaves. There are also other medications for ADD you an also try.

Thank you for the reply I will definitely ask my cardiologist about this and keep other meds in mind as I’m just trying to see how I’m going to do with this med today is day 5.

that’s a super duper low low dose. Talk to your cardiologist because I’m not a doctor, but I have PVCs, not to the level they need to be treated yet but we are monitoring, and I started with 10 mg of adderall Rx, now on 20 (we are titrating to find the right dose). It has had no effect on my palpitations. Like you I was scared to take it, but when I did, I was the exact opposite of hyper happened. It was awesome. Try it. If it works - fantastic. If it doesn’t, it will be less than a day of jitters. Worth the potential benefit. Weirdly, I feel more palpitations when I don’t take it. I know that’s the opposite of what is supposed to happen but…🤷‍♀️
