I was just diagnosed on Monday and started Adderall instant release 10mg yesterday. I'm wondering will I start to feel effects over the next few days/weeks or if I'm not feeling it immediately, it's not going to happen at all at this dose? I definitely feel... something. Like I didn't realize that all these years there's been a little generator whirring away inside me and all of a sudden someone just turned it off. But I don't feel that focus or the ability to get started on things I'm procrastinating about. I was really hoping for some sort of miracle moment there and I got nothing. My next appointment is in a month. Do I have to wait all that time, or can/should I reach out sooner to try 15 mg? If the answer is "just be patient"... I can live with that! I've been living with it for 45 years already... haha! Thanks for your thoughts!
Adderall IR 10mg: I was just diagnosed... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
Adderall IR 10mg
depends on age weight height probably
it should make you feel normal but at the same time more willing to do the smaller things you didnt think of doing before immediately. If your have too much, it can make your feel like youre on crack and cause you to not be able to sleep.
I personally didnt feel anything at 10mg. talk to your doctor as they typically micro dose to not be too much on you. Adderall is essentially speed. if diagnoses with add or adhd, there are other options like vyvanse that could be a better option if you tried the max dose of adderall and its not working to your liking.
I would give it some time and then ask your doc if you could try 15 (if you have tablets, you could crack one in half). I’m now using 10mg of Adderol ER and it works decently. You don’t want the crack feeling! When I first started, 10 mg of the instant worked miracles on me. But I think I line the ER better. I’m 55. Btw. Good luck!!
Thanks for this! Unfortunately, I've learned that because I had gastric bypass surgery I can't properly absorb the extended release ones, so the Instants are my only choice! Boo. I hear this might also be the reason by 10mg isn't doing it for me. Yeah, still not feeling much today either other than a slight calmer feeling. The constant shaking of my foot stops, I feel like I walk and move deliberately, and I lose all appetite and moisture in my mouth. Other than that, pretty much the same. I think I'll give it a few more days of monitoring and reach out to next week if things stay the same. I appreciate your thoughts!
You need no patience with Adderall. The effects are almost immediate. I am on the same dosage and the wonderful effects hit about 30 minutes after taking it. With other psychoactive drugs like anti depressants and the like, there is a waiting period of weeks but not with this one. I love it when the fog clears and calmness descends for awhile.
My doctor started me with 10mg of AdderalXR and then we used titration (increasing little by little) until we found a sweet spot. The sweet spot for us was where I had the greatest benefit but minimum and tolerable side affects.
I founds that 10 did not have much affect. I noticed some small things like you. I increased after about 3 weeks to 15mg for a month. I saw definite improvement and increased each by 5mg. For me 20mg seemed like a good balance. I am currently on 25mg which I think might be a bit too high. The side affects were quite strong in the beginning mostly Dry Mouth and problems starting to urinate.
When I got to 15mg I found that I was focused more and able to stay on task. It also had a snowball affect and helped with my mild depression and anxiety. With the medication I am excited to start each day and what I intend to accomplish.
Since you are not on XR it should be easier to test out different dosages until you find the right dose. Work with your doctor and discuss how each dosage affects and side affects. I don’t think you need to wait a month. Keep an ongoing dialogue and hopefully you will find d the right dosage.
I feel lucky that the first medication I tried seems to help but also wonder if other medications would be better.
Once you start to notice it helping use that initial period to our things into practice to help you maintain the right balance of everything. For me the newness and excitement wore off a bit and finding I need those other tools in place along with the medication to be operating at the optimal level.
Feel free to contact me directly. I am happy to to discuss more about my experience. I am fairly new (started medication in January) and just turned 53. It’s a whole new perspective and major improvement in my quality of life.
Thanks so much for this thoughtful reply! I think I will call today to get the dosage increased. The only real changed I noticed over the weekend was not having the jittery, anxious feeling. Other than that, I felt pretty much the same, just slightly calmer than usual. So, yeah, it's like a teaser of the right dosage will do. I think I will call today about getting it increased. Thanks again! I so appreciate your perspective!
30 days is the norm for medication to get into your system and work. I keep a journal of how I'm feeling, noticeable changes, etc. Si at your bext appointment you can go over it with your Dr.
Hello, what Figitandhum said is true —- with stimulants you know right away if they are working or not. You either feel no different, or have negative side effects (ie dark thoughts). Stimulants hit your system within .5 to 1 hour and wear off within a few hours depending on the release type.
Absolutely call your doctors office to let them know that your current dosage isn’t doing anything. This is a normal thing to do. I have done this several times for my kids if their meds haven’t worked a few days in. The staff gives your message to the doctor and he/she sends an increased prescription to the pharmacy, all without having an appointment. Don’t sit there and continue to suffer. 👍🏻
I only looked at, or only recognized my ability to focus and get things done when the docs asked me how I was doing on my meds. I didn’t realize the heightened anxiety and possible depressive thoughts were caused by to much Adderall. 15 years later I am paying the price. Please keep that in mind.
Thank you so much for this! I appreciate your honesty. I have been tracking the negative side effects too, and have noticed that the little heightened anxiety I felt on days 1-3 have really subsided. I assume they'll return if/when I increase, but they were never too bad. I will definitely keep an eye on that and be mindful about it, though.. Again, thank you!
