Is anyone familiar with Canadian resources? (B.C. Canada)

It was suggested to me by a GP and my counsellor that I have ADHD and should be assessed (later found out that a psychologist also asked my parents to seek an assessment for me when I was in elementary school but they refused)

I was referred to a specialist by one of the GP's, the assessment cost me $250 and they "diagnosed" me with combined type ADHD

I found out afterwards that this assessment is not recognized by many GP's because it is conducted by a trained nurse practitioner instead of a doctor and it seems like they they give anyone a diagnosis - basically feel like I was scammed out of $250

I was referred to another specialist and wanted over 6 months to be told it will cost $2000 - none of it is covered by MSP and my work insurance only covers $400 which I have already used up on counselling

I thought I was waiting 6 months for an assessment covered by MSP but now I have been told that there is no way to get an assessment covered by MSP because ADHD is not considered a disability in BC? - I am not sure if any of that is true or not and I have no idea how to find out

I finally got a new family doctor who I will be seeing next month - I hope they will accept my original assessment but I wish I could get help, assessment, and treatment from someone who actually specializes in ADHD

Is anyone familiar with BC resources?

I do not know anything about the health care system in Canada. But you can try putting the following in Google "Does MSP cover ADHD in Canada"

I have tried a few different combinations of wording in Google search but there's not much there.. mostly just see adds for the "assessment" I already received 😕

Thank you for the suggestion though

It is the same way in the US. Websites in the US that are official government websites usually end with .gov. If Canada is similar. try scrolling down until you see a website that has the same ending as other government websites.

See if the links below are of any help.
