I was wondering if there were Indians or fellow Indian-americans (with origins from India) on this forum. I was wondering why mental health in India is so bad in comparison to the US. I may have a couple big reasons in my mind as to why, but does anyone have any ideas as to what we can do to improve India’s mental health system? All are welcome to answer. Being of indian descent is not required haha.
I found a nice post on Reddit on this topic, but in response to the question: What does /r/India think about depression?
I added the solid post in response to that question to the "photos"

First, I'm surprised and glad to find a member from India, like me, in this group. I'm 74, how old are you?Second, I'm glad you've questioned about how to improve the level of mental health care in India. It's big and complicated. The level of healthcare in the public sector is very poor. India invests only around 1% of GDP on overall public healthcare, which should be around 3% or more. Private healthcare in India may be state-of-the-art. But it is exploitative and acts like mental health isn't an issue.
LegSpinner (who responded to your Q on Reddit) is right in listing mental health 'stigma' as a reason for all this and as a focus for action. Stigma about mental health is universal in India. Those of us with ADHD can do our bit by finding ways to become visible and heard. We have to begin by finding each other and by connecting with experienced open-minded psychatrists and counsellors.
I hope more younger and older adults with ADHD will join us.
