I was recently diagnosed with ADHD, I am 35yr old female. I started a couple of weeks ago on 30mg of Vyvanse and for the first day, I had no appetite and noticed a difference in my cognitive abilities. However, after those few days, the cognitive abilities were still there, but I was so tired all the time. I also was hungry all the time. My doctor up my dosage to 40g, its only been a couple of days and I am not as tired, but still ravenous! I know Vyvanse is supposed to suppress your appetite but it has had the complete opposite effect! I want to eat all the time, and I eat healthy meals. I eat every 2 hours basically, lots of protein and veggies but I am still hungry in between! I am concerned that I am going to gain weight and I really can't afford that! I was hoping these would help me lose weight! Has anyone experienced something similar? or has any advice? Thank you!

Anyone else experience extreme hunger while on Vyvanse?
Hello! I am a 32 year old female and I would have to agree that Vyvanse has caused an increase in my snacking. I am currently at 30mg. I have my 1 month check up and will more than likely get an increase because I do not feel the focus I need with 30mg. I notice that after I take my medication, I won’t eat until much later... when the medication begins wearing off at around 3:30-4ish.... I am STARVING and eating everything in sight. So idk what the deal is but I am hoping it subsides.
Sorry I've had the opposing experience with loosing my appetite to the point I can't eat. I think you're doing the right thing though if you just eat healthy food regularly I doubt you'll put on weight, but if your worried im sure your doctor can advise you.
I would ask doc to lower your dose. I'm not sure why docs start out at 30mg when it's not the lowest dose! They like to just "up the dose" as an answer to everything. I'm only on 5mg and it helps. My appetite is slightly decreased (doesn't make me want to squelch problems with food). Talk to your doc as lowering as an option. Let us know how you make out! Lori
Thank you for all your responses! I have been playing around with different ways of taking the pill, i.e., eating certain foods, not eating for a certain amount of time..things like that. I discovered that for me, I need to drink a litre of water with no food for at least 2 hours after taking the pill. For some reason, this helps me get the best out of my pill and does actually subside my appetite. I now have a similar pattern to RCJH8610, sort of an intermittent fasting thing going on. but if I take the pill any other way, I am starving all day, limited cognitive ability and tired. It's almost as if it doesn't absorb at all if anything else is in my system!🤷♀️
YES!!!!! Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I think part of the reason I'm so hungry is because when I first take the medication in the morning I cannot be bothered to eat. But the weird thing is that my stomach will hurt the whole morning with hunger pains but I will ignore it. Then I will eat a HUGE lunch and HUGE dinner and still end up SO HUNGRY it's painful, in between. I don't get it lol. I should probably try and force myself to eat a big breakfast too and maybe that will help, I also don't want to gain weight and was hoping to lose alittle. However I used to binge eat before starting this medication and literally day one of taking it the binge eating stopped so at least I'm not over-eating like that anymore. And I have more motivation to actually move my body whereas before I had none.
Absolutely you're not on your own, I've recently been upped to 50mg vyvanse and 10mg of dexamphetamine.. I've been ravenous like yourself and unfortunately unable to exercise well after a major accident. I have gone from 95kg to 120kg in the last year ☹️
OMG I'M STARVING ALL THE TIME! whether i'm taking 10 or i'm taking 40, all i think about is food. i've done a lot of speed in my days and i've never seen this so i was worried as well. i've done tons of research and can't find anything to explain it. has anyone found anything yet?
I become extremely hungry at night after the medication wears off. I probably have more than half of my calories late at night and now cannot fall asleep without eating.
I have also felt a lot more intense hunger a lot more frequently. I don't know if it matters but I'm actually using the medication in an off label way, for chronic fatigue, treatment resistant depression and ironically compulsive eating. My doctor keeps saying it suppresses appetite not the opposite but like this was the only change I can attribute it to. It has helped me so much in the other areas though, I think it may be worth the trade off even though it gives physical discomfort often due to the ridiculously strong and frequent hunger.
