Hi all! I’m very new to this group but I have some questions. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed 20mg of vyvanse, and it hasn’t been working. Tried 40 today and it’s still not reeeally working. I’m wondering if I’m not taking enough for my weight/stature/age (21)?? I weigh about 280. I’m also studying for the MCAT and am a full time student so the lack of concentration is really frustrating. Throughout the day I don’t feel like there’s a single time I can sit down and get things done. Wanted to hear all of your thoughts!

Vyvanse trouble?
Hi you say 20mg isn’t working and you tried 40mg and it’s still not working or not really working.it should be doing something after 1 1/2-2hrs.
I weigh 196 pounds and even 20mg will work for me and that’s when my daily dose is 70mg.
Either modified release ain’t for you and you need short acting.
What are you experiencing when taking them or not experiencing?
I struggle with the same problem when I need to learn something new. Also,You may be taking the wrong medication. Some doctors know very little about adult ADHD and even less about the frustration this disorder creates. This lack of knowledge is aggravating.
tell your doctor. you may need to try a different dose or medication. it took me several months to find the right "cocktail."
i noticed also that when I am particularly stressed / anxious my medications are not as helpful. Maybe I get a lil boost in energy, but its minimal. I will get minimal done vs getting nothing done that day. That's it.
Maybe need more sleep, more "fun/relax" time, more structure, more exercise, etc.
Counseling was very helpful. I went 25 years of my life without the diagnosis, and with that, I learned many things very differently... its not necessarily a bad thing, but for some situations, its not great either. "Pills don't teach skills," as the saying goes.
