New here, not new to ADHD. Looking for advice to re-engage and re-focus at work, burnout to the max!

Hello,

New here! Excited to find this community to chat among others and learn and support one another. I was diagnosed with ADHD in High School and am currently 35. Managed with medication, coaching well throughout college and have had a successful career in finance for last 13 years. Currently, as a full time working mom and essential employee at essential business during my state's emergency stay at home order, i've been required to go into the office everyday (although i can work remotely and do so all the time). Office culture is tough. mentally, im burnt out! seeking advice to get back to "me" when i dont feel like "me" during all this. Thanks!

Hi unicorn

Every day 7 days a week.wow I know ppl including my self who have adhd can out run the average person but you’ve got to take time out for your self, just like the average person.

Perhaps stand firm and say I’ll work from home 3 days a week and 2 days in the office.if you can do what you can in the office at home I can’t see the problem.

If your manager is managing ppl properly then you should be able to explain the situation of being burnt out and you need some time out.

A good manager will understand where your coming from and take the appropriate steps to help your cause.

I’ve many a time had to say to no to a manager.some give you a hard time as there then thinking there gonna get a hard time from there boss and being selfish with the situation.

Some managers the very few good ones will offer you an informal chat or meeting and get an understanding of the situation and if they are good will have no problem as they should be able to delegate work balance appropriately

I got burnt out once and that was before I got diagnosed and found my self driving to work every day crying for no apparent reason.i saw my doc who put me on antidepressants and with in a few months I was seeing the mental health team and by chance was then after a few months diagnosed with adhd at the age of 40.

But I just would let my manager pile the work on and get on and do it some times 18 hrs a day.i don’t think any human can sustain that many hours for that long to be honest

Thank you for your response, and feedback, especially having been there before. My boss (CEO) is the problem, its a very toxic environment. A revolving door here and the main reason in exit interviews is "Poor management from Top Down", lack of concern, health, care, well-being for employees. I'm in a place to make the decision on whats best for my family. My doctor has been saying this for a year now, I need to listen!!!

Hi Hidden ,

Is there a way you can glitter-ize, gamify, or make your work a little more playful? Here are a couple of ideas: go to work very early, take a detour or new route to work, listen to different music on the way, dress up, wear a costume or a favorite hat, wear a pedometer to see how many steps you take at work, add some sound effects to your zoom conversations (or a new background) if you use zoom, use colored pens... what ideas do you want to try? What are some of your own? I'm curious :-)
