I am a licensed psychologist with ADHD, who specializes in working with people diagnosed with ADHD. I would go to CHADD or ADDA to see if you find someone licensed in your state to diagnose. I am in Ohio. Although you could go to a psychiatrist, some of them do not take insurance. A primary care physician could diagnose you, but usually would send you to someone else, because they would not get enough time with you to be able to say with certainty that it is ADHD.

If you cannot find someone on those two sites, Psychology Today is a good place. Look for psychologists or psychiatrists, and check the specialization ADHD. Let me know if you have any questions.

it may not matter... I see a psychiatric nurse practitioner who is overseen by a psychiatrist - and generally nurses aren't as pressed for time. either one should be able to get you set up with an official diagnosis using a thorough diagnostic assessment. Good luck.

I would definitely go to a psychiatrist or at least call their office. I see a nurse practitioner who is under a psychiatrist. It has helped tremendously. I was prescribed meds by my gp for anxiety. When I was 37 I finally went to a psychiatrist and was properly diagnosed and put on the correct meds. Because I've been high functioning meaning graduated from college, job, married, house and kids I was silently suffering. I'm so thankful for my therapist and nurse practitioner. Good luck, dont give up!
