Are accommodations for ADHD just suggestions to employers, or are there mandates in the Americans with Disabilities Act?

I believe there are mandates. I know that there are mandates for schools, I have been helped with several of them. Discrimination is just illegal. since I do not know any details it's hard to give you better advise. At best look it up on the internet. Know your rights, then people will be less likely to abuse your rights. They do have to know, you know, what your rights are. Keep good notes on what is happening.

Thank you for the response. I will continue to search the internet for information.

Accomodations can be requested by an employee if he or she is struggling to completing essential job duties, but only if the ADHD is disclosed and the treating provider provides an attestation affirming your request for whatever accomodations are needed at the time. I discovered this by trial and error and unfortunately I was just let go due to inability of being able to complete work to catch up and without any modifications to approved accomodations. Best of luck!

May I ask, what accommodations were you requesting, more time to finish work, or? I’m sorry to hear about your job loss.

I was asking to change my work hours 15 minutes later. I can barely get myself to work on time and starting this school year, I have to take my son to school before I go to work. He has severe anxiety and GI problems which make mornings extremely difficult.

This is general, not specific to ADHD, but lays it all out: eeoc.gov/facts/ada18.html

I just went through this and my ADA accommodation was approved. If you are struggling and stressed, **apply for FMLA now** - then continue with the ADA accommodation process. I recommend keeping FMLA protection. Apply for Intermittent FMLA. Take time off when you need to and always indicate it is FMLA when you do. Track when it is about to run out and request an extension.

Take care of yourself.
