The XR stands for extended release . It's meant to keep a more steady amount of the medication in your system over a longer period of time. The other version is immediate release, and it can wear off faster. Different people respond to different dosing. Some people might need the immediate release due to timing or how their body reacts, whereas others may do better with the XR.
