Do other people with. AdHd get opposite effects from medications// substances? Like coffee makes you sleep and tylonal pm makes you jitter?
Yes I have most of the time opposite effect if it is to calm you down I am wired and vise versa. I am not sure why but I think it has to do with ADHD. Hopefully someone can shine a light on the matter.
Everything effects people differently. It's one of the challenging things of medication. You can't predict. For some people, stimulants make you calmer and more sedated. For others, it gives energy. For me, I find that medicine gives me focus but not energy. Caffeine can give me energy now, but in the past when I drank a lot more I found that it actually helped me calm down and I could sleep even after having a pot of coffee.
I think it varies person by person. If you know yourself and that your body reacts in opposite ways, though, you can probably use that with your treatment. Maybe a stimulant will help you calm down, or maybe something like a sedative will wake you up. Work closely with your doctor to discuss the options. I doubt you're the only one.
Apparently It’s to do with dopamine and serotonin imbalances hence why when we take amphetamine or methylphenidate based tablets it helps us calm down focus and stabilise emotions but when non ADHD people take them they tend to have the opposite effect they can become more hyper emotionally all over the place but can still focus it is interesting how and why it all works and it’s great that there’s lots more research then discovers.
Everything basically works the opposite or different reaction that others that are not ADHD. I take 4x the amount of Lamictal that someone would take for a seizure disorder and it has no sedating effect at all. My coworker had brain surgery and had to take lamictal (quarter of what I take and it knocked her out) that’s what if led me down the path to adhd diagnoses.
