New Diagnosis

Hi all, I have been struggling over the past year and thought I could use some advice, especially because I'm normally bad at reaching out for help. I am in my late 20's and was diagnosed with ADHD last year. This came out of academic struggles that until now was able to compensate for with poor defense mechanisms. Now that I am getting treated, I have made strides, but I am still in the academic field, so need to keep improving. I am not yet where I need to be or want to be with getting my daily schedule and ability to accomplish long-term goals and am starting to let it affect my motivation/mood. How do you deal with maintaining your energy and motivation levels at 110% to do things that you're "weak" at? Any advice would be much appreciated!

For me I needed to be kinder to myself, it helps if you can find someone who also has adhd and has struggled with stuff you struggle with and they found what worked for them to get better. I also never focused on my strengths, it took me a long time to work on it and I have found the stuff I suck at I’m getting a little better the more I do it and know that I’m learning what I am good at I’m also learning do things that work for me. Example I print everything out I don’t do as well unless the paper is in front of me. I made a 4X8 feet dry erase board in my office, 🥰

Hi yes it is a struggle to do things you are not motivated to do. I find that if you make a list of your tasks for the day to help. So if it is something you can do in a short time then do those first and continue with your tasks. Remember to take it one day at a time and that if you get most of your tasks done that is a good day. For your long term goals if you can try to break them into smaller tasks and do those with your daily tasks before you know it you will have mad your long term goals. Also allow yourself small rewards if you have done all your tasks for the day. For me I like to read so I can read a book that I want to for an hour and that’s my reward. As in the Tortoise and the Hare “Slow and steady wins the race”.
