Do I have ADHD?

Hi my name is Becky. I have not been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, but I was considered a hyperactive child, and I still have a lot of the symptoms of ADHD. I am currently seeking testing and possible treatment for my condition.

your first step is to talk to your doctor about your concerns, they can test/diagnose/point you in the right direction. it wouldn't be a bad idea to find a psychologist who specializes in ADHD in your area.

First, I would schedule an appointment with your regular doctor. Write a list of the things you struggle with. Take it to your doctor, tell them what you struggle with, tell them you have researched and would like to be evaluated for ADHD.

If you, like me, had a primary care doctor who did not give you much to go on, I would give this a shot: Goodle ADHD evaluation with your city/state (For me, I googled "ADHD Evaluation Portland OR"). It will come up with plenty of links. You'll have to email/call most facilities or doctors to get more information.

If you, also like me, have anxiety about speaking to someone, make a script beforehand with our questions. If you have a nice friend/partner, you might get them to call. Your only questions might be "Hello, does your clinic do diagnosis of ADHD? Do you take X insurance? How do I set up an appointment?". Most likely you'll have to leave a message and they will call you back. Good luck!
